Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Martinko.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story was never meant to be intricate or appealing. My life looks completely different than I had ever imagined and I have loved every single moment of the journey. I am a wife and a mom of two. I graduated from Lone Jack high school then went on to pursue my Bachelors degree in Athletic Training at the University of Central Missouri is Warrensburg Missouri. While in college I met my husband and we took off to Florida following graduation for me to attend Palmer College of Chiropractic in Port Orange Florida. The doctorate program was long, intense and very taxing but I had so many passions that I wanted to pursue. I had a great love for the pediatric and prenatal populations, but I had this ever lingering and pulling passion for athletics and treating athletes. I wanted to help everyone and treat everything I could within my scope.
Following chiropractic school graduation, my husband, my infant son and I moved back to his home in Odessa Missouri. I started to do some traveling chiropractic to friends and families homes and created a strong patient base. Following the birth of my daughter, in November of 2021 I started renting a single room to treat patients out of a single location in downtown Odessa. Within 6 months we had grown to needing 3 rented rooms, and within 1 year, my husband and I purchased the entire building and grew Hometown Chiropractic and Wellness our of about 3,000 square foot of the building. The remainder of the building has become what we call the Hometown Wellness Collective which houses 4 separate wellness based small businesses to provide local, affordable and top notch care to our rural community.
Hometown Chiropractic and Wellness just celebrated its 4th anniversary and we have continued to grow. We offer chiropractic with 2 doctors, massage therapy, a gym, infrared sauna, and multiple modalities to aid in injury recovery and overall wellness.
Hometown has grown so much and so quickly that while I have been blessed to treat so many amazing patients, the fire in my gut to treat athletes has continued to burn and it has grown even stronger has I saw more and more athletes within my clinic.
At the beginning of 2025, a friend had approached my husband and I about opening a gym here in Odessa. He had planned to build a membership style gym open to the community, but was interested to know if my husband and I would want to open and sports performance and sports chiropractic business in conjunction with his gym. With very little thought and a ton of excitement, we jumped immediately onto the opportunity knowing good and well that we were going to have to build another business from the ground up. Sports Lab was the fire that kept burning. It was here and it was time to get to work.
Sports Lab is built to be a sports performance facility aimed at providing sports specific and dynamic training for athletes of all ages. We have set out to put injury prevention at the forefront of all of our programming, but ultimately aim to train athletes for all types of activities, educate them how to move their bodies properly, but also how to recover, fuel their systems with wholesome nutrition, and create healthy relationships with exercise for many years to come.
We are offering a youth exercise program called Kidletics on-site at Sports Lab, but have also created programs for 2 separate child care facilities here in Odessa to provide Kidletics during the week AT their facilities.
We have a Homeschool Hustle program designed to bring homeschool kids and co-ops together to workout during the week as well.
Our sports performance programs are scheduled mostly in the afternoons, but also some classes scattered to fit the schedules of the athletes that we have doing schooling online and plan to train during the day.
I will be offering Sports Chiropractic on site and will be providing many recovery modalities such as stretching, muscle work, Normatec Compression sleeves, cupping, ultrasound and chiropractic rehab. We are offering a recovery hour every day from 3-4 for athletes that are participating in our sports performance programs as well.
We plan to open at the beginning of January 2026, but we have Founders Club packages available now for purchase and early enrollment.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I tell people that running a business is like riding the waves. Sometimes it’s nice and smooth, we can sit back and enjoy the ride, and other times, it’s like trying not to fall out of the boat and watch everything you worked for go over the edge. I think the hardest part are the sacrifices that come along with providing a service, but also when you have a great passion for something. You want it to be the best that you can possibly make it. You want to think of all of the “what-ifs” before they happen. You want to put out all of the fires that haven’t even started yet. And while doing all of these things, you miss out on times with your children, husband and family. Time goes so fast, and sometimes I look back and am so proud of the businesses that we have built, but wonder what else what happening that I missed along the way.
We’ve been impressed with Hometown Chiropractic and Wellness & Sports Lab, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Bachelors in Athletic Training
Doctorate of Chiropractic
Webster Certified – Prenatal and pediatric care
Certified in Chiropractic Sports Medicine
Certified in Dry Needling
I believe what sets me apart is my passion and my love for what I do. There is no ulterior motive. There is no outside motivation except that I just want to do what I love and provide a service for communities that otherwise it wouldn’t have.
I try very hard to be an honest and transparent person. I love my job. I love building businesses and I believe that it translates into that care that I provide my patients.
My businesses are built to be like a home for my employees. I want it to also be an extension of themselves. I want it to be a place where they can build their own dreams and create programs and services that bring them joy as well. I am so incredibly proud of the culture that we have created around our businesses. It has become a place where people want to work and where people want to stay and I am really proud of that.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I’m not afraid!
and I have the most incredible and supportive husband.
I believe in what I do. I get to help people every single day.
I truly believe that if there is something that sets your soul on fire, you better listen to it. If there is something that you have always wanted to do or a passion that you have never pursued… that urge will NEVER go away.
