Hidden Gems: Meet Hiten Soni of Brain and Mind Wellness Clinic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hiten Soni.

Hi Hiten, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Years ago, I was profoundly impacted by the psychiatrist I was seeing. I realized that I wanted to help people, just as she helped me. After working as an Environmental Engineer for over a decade, I changed paths to devote my professional life to medicine.

I opened the Brain and Mind Wellness Clinic as a response to the need for high-quality, timely, and accessible psychiatry services in the community. Here, my focus is on medication-assisted treatment for opioid dependence and psychiatric medication management. Mental health care should be accessible and convenient. That’s where I come in.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Even in 2021, the stigma around seeking treatment for mental health concerns and substance dependence can make it very challenging for some to get the help they need. For example, a dangerous myth that some believe about medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid dependence is that it’s like trading one addiction for another. This is absolutely not true. MAT incorporates FDA-approved medication along with therapy in an individualized treatment plan designed to suit the specific needs of each patient. The medication helps foster stability in the brain, from which new habits and lifestyle changes can be made. Stigmas and misinformation around treatment options prevent people from seeking help, ultimately hurting the people who need the support the most.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Brain and Mind Wellness Clinic?
