Today we’d like to introduce you to Felicity Hendricks.
Hi Felicity, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey with Modern Colonics really started with my own health struggles. I was dealing with a lot of health issues and realized I wanted to take my healing into my own hands. That led me to enroll at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition to become a certified health coach. While I was in school, I began reaching out to wellness centers and doctors around Kansas City, hoping to find a place where I could practice health coaching. I even had an incredible opportunity to work alongside a naturopathic doctor downtown.
Right around that time, though, my health took a turn for the worse. I became so sick that I was bedridden for about a month. It was one of the hardest seasons of my life, but it was also a time when my faith grew tremendously. I spent a lot of time praying and asking God to guide me. As I slowly regained my strength and was finally able to get out of bed again, I felt ready to continue pursuing my dream.
A few months later, I connected with a woman who owned a wellness spa in Lee’s Summit. She reached out because her receptionist had become pregnant and offered me an opportunity to get my foot in the door. While working there, she asked if I would be interested in learning colon hydrotherapy. I had never imagined that path for myself, but I decided to say yes.
I first trained on the traditional closed system, where the therapist remains in the room with the client throughout the session. Later, I traveled to Texas for a week of intensive training on the open system, which provides clients with much more privacy and comfort. After returning, I began practicing at the wellness spa and quickly realized how much I loved helping people improve their health and confidence.
Eventually, the woman who mentored me retired, and shortly afterward I made the leap to open my own business. That’s how Modern Colonics was born.
Today, I’m proud to provide a safe, welcoming, and judgment-free space where people can take control of their gut health and overall wellness. Looking back, I can see that every challenge from my own illness to the unexpected turns in my career led me exactly where I was meant to be. I’m incredibly grateful for the journey, and I’m excited to continue helping others feel their best.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I truly believe every challenge has shaped who I am as a business owner. Before Modern Colonics even existed, I faced my own health struggles that left me bedridden for about a month. That season taught me resilience, strengthened my faith, and reminded me why I wanted to help others improve their health in the first place.
After opening my own practice, I quickly realized that being a small business owner means wearing every hat. You’re not just the practitioner, you’re also the marketer, receptionist, accountant, social media manager, cleaner, and everything in between. There have been slow seasons where I questioned myself and wondered if I was doing enough, but those moments pushed me to learn, adapt, and become a better entrepreneur.
One of the biggest challenges has been educating people about colon hydrotherapy. Because it’s not something everyone is familiar with, a lot of my time is spent answering questions, easing fears, and helping people understand the benefits. Watching someone walk in nervous and leave feeling lighter, healthier, and excited to come back reminds me exactly why I do what I do.
Looking back, I wouldn’t change the journey. Every obstacle has made me stronger, deepened my trust in God, and reinforced my passion for helping others. Building Modern Colonics from the ground up has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but it’s also been one of the most rewarding.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Modern Colonics?
Modern Colonics is a private wellness practice dedicated to helping people improve their digestive health and overall well-being through open-system colon hydrotherapy. My goal has always been to create a calm, welcoming, and judgment-free environment where clients feel comfortable from the moment they walk through the door.
One of the things that sets Modern Colonics apart is that I am the only I-ACT and National Board Certified colon hydrotherapist in the Kansas City area. I believe continuing education and providing the highest standard of care are incredibly important, and I take pride in offering a professional, safe, and comfortable experience for every client.
I also chose to specialize in the open system because it offers clients complete privacy and allows them to be in control of their session, which helps make the experience much less intimidating especially for first-time clients. Education is a huge part of what I do. Many people have never heard of colon hydrotherapy or have misconceptions about it.
What I’m most proud of isn’t just the business I’ve built, it’s the trust my clients place in me.
At the end of the day, Modern Colonics is about more than colon hydrotherapy. It’s about helping people feel heard, supported, and empowered to take control of their health. My hope is that every person who walks through my doors leaves feeling better than when they arrived.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
The biggest risk I ever took was leaving the security of working for someone else to open Modern Colonics. It was scary because there were no guarantees. I was responsible for finding clients, paying the bills, marketing the business, and wearing every hat as a new business owner.
Looking back, I can also see that my own health journey was a risk in itself. I chose to invest in my education through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and follow a career path that wasn’t traditional. Later, when I was offered the opportunity to learn colon hydrotherapy, I said yes even though I knew very little about it. That decision completely changed the direction of my life.
Starting Modern Colonics has been one of the biggest risks I’ve ever taken, but it’s also been the most rewarding. Every client I help reminds me that stepping out in faith was absolutely worth it.
