Hidden Gems: Meet Erin Samborski of Color Club KC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Samborski.

Hi Erin, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As a former teacher in a dual-enrollment fashion program, I was trained in color theory in the early 2000s. Four years ago, a former student approached me about combining my background in color with her makeup business and bringing color analysis up to date with today’s trends.
We began hosting pop-up events together, and the business continued to grow from there. Today, we help people understand how to wear their best colors so they can reduce decision fatigue, shop more intentionally, and feel more confident in the choices they make.
We offer in-home color parties, corporate events, and one-on-one appointments in our studio for people of every age and gender. At the heart of everything we do is teaching how to enhance one’s natural beauty. Understanding your undertone and identifying the colors that create a natural glow can become the foundation for building a smarter wardrobe, wearing less makeup, and choosing a hair color that enhances your natural features.
We also offer children’s and teen color bar experiences because the earlier someone understands their best colors, the sooner they can avoid unnecessary makeup and clothing purchases that do not make them feel their best.
This mission is also deeply personal to me. As a teenager, I frequently used tanning beds to hide the redness and acne-prone skin that made me feel self-conscious. Those decisions later contributed to my experience with melanoma skin cancer. Looking back, I now understand that wearing the right colors could have helped reduce the appearance of redness and acne without feeling the need to change or hide my skin.
Color analysis is about much more than clothing. It is about helping people recognize and enhance the natural beauty they already have, make more confident decisions, and spend their money more wisely.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the biggest challenges has been running a client-facing business from home while raising three boys. Creating a professional, welcoming environment can be difficult with family members coming and going throughout the day.
To help with that, I created a dedicated studio space that is separated from the rest of the house. My goal was to make clients feel like they were stepping into a comfortable, intentional space rather than simply entering our family home.
Because color analysis is a one-time service, renting a separate commercial space has not always made financial sense and keeps my pricing more affordable. I may not have a large amount of repeat business, but I have been incredibly grateful for the referrals my clients continue to send my way, as once you know you want to share it with everyone!

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Color Club KC?
My degree is in vocational family and consumer sciences, and I spent eight years teaching the Technical Fashion Careers program in the Shawnee Mission School District. After our second son was born, I stepped away from the classroom to stay home with our boys, but I continued using my fashion and design experience through a variety of side projects.
One of the most exciting projects was transforming Rhiannon Ally’s wedding dress into a First Communion dress for her daughter. I also worked for a professional organizing company, helping clients sort through and organize their wardrobes.
That experience connects directly to color analysis because people often purchase clothing they love on the hanger but rarely wear. In many cases, the first step in simplifying a wardrobe is identifying and removing colors that create a harsher appearance or do not complement the person’s natural coloring.
What sets us apart is our commitment to helping clients see the difference for themselves. My background as a teacher naturally carries into every appointment. I have amazing employees that carry the same passion for bettering people’s lives through the magic of color! We do not want to simply tell someone which colors look best on them. We want to show them what to look for, explain why certain color combinations work and make sure they leave with the knowledge and confidence to apply what they learned immediately.
Our goal is for every client to walk out the door feeling prepared to shop more intentionally, build a smarter wardrobe and recognize the colors that enhance their natural beauty in makeup and hair color decisions as well. I also let clients know they are welcome to reach out after their appointment if they are unsure about an item already in their wardrobe or need help deciding whether a color is right for them.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Clients leave feeling excited to apply what they learned, and empowered to make smarter buying decisions.
