Today we’d like to introduce you to Ed Messe Mckalister Williams.
Hi Ed Messe Mckalister, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It started with the untimely death of my two little cousins. They both called me regularly to come and pick them up to hang out with me. At the time I was heavily into music and movie productions, but I also had a full-time job at the city of Kansas City, Missouri being a fleet maintenance mechanic. I failed my little cousins by being too busy . They ended up with the wrong crowd and ultimately lost their lives. Fast-forward to 2023 my first student Dante Simmons and his cousin asked to cut my grass during school hours. I told them no, but they could help me install a transmission. I needed extra hands. They came around every day after that . I got Dante and his cousins re-enrolled in a school and told them after school to come by which they did. The winter time came and because my shop is pretty much outside, I did not expect them to be in the cold with me therefore, I was not able to keep up with them as much which he was murdered this year. Other youth in the neighborhood seeing we were outside working on cars and I offered them an opportunity and here we are GOCAF inc. We install values into the youth like taking care of your community such as every Thursday we go to Victoria, arms apartments, and help feed the tenants and also every Sunday ninth and Locust we help feed and clothe the homeless with Sydney and Mikes Angels.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road yet.. First we have a tree that is over 100 years old. We call her big Bertha. Every now and then she like to shed her big old limbs which comes down and makes it a little bit dangerous or tear up things. Second when the winter comes I lose most of my kids and I have to recruit again. Third the city neighborhood enforcer comes through and makes us move cars, even though we are on a secluded part of the street. I tried to keep the youth motivated with pocket change so they won’t be in the streets doing the wrong thing..

So I was not able to pay my bills for three months, which took my 5 year perfect payment history from a 750 to a 500 which has put a lot of plans on hold. I try to keep Money in the youth pockets which sometimes take out of my own household, but I have a caring and understanding Wife so she has no problem with it..
