Today we’d like to introduce you to Drew Woolery.
Hi Drew, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started in photography back in high school. I’ve spent the many years since exploring much of the visual world in terms of both video and photography. Everything from working corporate in house jobs on their creative teams, to working for an ad agency in town on their internal production team. Working in house for about 12 years gave me both the ability and the itch to go out on my own and start my own company, and so that’s what I did. I started working for myself almost 5 years ago and I’ve hardly looked back. I work full time as a photographer and director under both my name, Drew Woolery, as well as under the production company Skinny Jeans. With the launch of Skinny Jeans, I also had the chance to open a studio space under the same name. We host a 17′ LED wall that can be used for anything from product shoots, fashion, advertising and even car scenes! Basically, you can project anything on the LED wall as you would a TV screen that sits behind your subject and allows you to essentially film “all over the world”.
What I love about this line work is that I get to meet so many different people and see many different things. I love the visual aspect of this job, but I also love telling stories through this medium and meeting new people along the way.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing good comes easy. There is always hard work involved in creating something unique and interesting. That goes for everything from a small project all the way through starting a business. I have had little setbacks here or there, but you have to keep your head up and keep pushing for what you want. It helps to have friends and connections to help along the way, but that only goes so far. There will be times where it feels like it’s you against the world, because typically no one cares about your company or project as much as you do. And it’s hard, but if you care enough and want it enough, it will come. Keeping a good attitude, taking care of people and simply having gratitude for what you do have will go a long way.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Skinny Jeans Productions?
I own and operate Skinny Jeans Productions along with a studio space under the same name, Skinny Jeans. We specialize in commercial video production and commercial photography. We shoot both in studio and on location for various types of brands in different industries. We focus a lot on people and lifestyle moments, but also work with products. I’m always looking for those unique little interactions on screen, whether that’s in motion or in photography. Skinny Jeans has a certain level of quality that we strive for and we make sure to hire the right people to help us get there on every project. As a production company, it’s not about one person. It’s a team sport creating video and photography productions, and we always try to bring together the best team to get it done.
