Today we’d like to introduce you to Cynthia Venegas.
Cynthia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always been drawn to beauty from a young age, but my relationship with it didn’t start from confidence—it started from insecurity. Growing up, people would tell me I was beautiful, but I never fully believed it. When I hit middle school and started struggling with acne, those insecurities deepened. I was teased for my skin and appearance, even by people close to me, and it made me want to hide.
That’s when I found makeup. I started using it in sixth grade as a way to cover up, but over time it became something much more. As my skin began to clear with the help of professionals and I entered high school, makeup shifted from something I used to hide into something I used to create. It gave me confidence and became an outlet for self-expression, especially during the rise of YouTube beauty.
When it came time to choose a career, I initially pursued nursing because it felt safe and stable. But deep down, I knew it wasn’t aligned with who I was. I’ve always loved both science and creativity, and I realized esthetics was the perfect blend of the two. I left UMKC and enrolled in esthetics school, where I began working in different areas of the beauty industry—from spa environments to retail and eventually lash services and makeup artistry.
Early in my career, I was gaining momentum. I had opportunities to work weddings, collaborate with other artists, and even travel for makeup. But behind the scenes, I felt spread thin and unfulfilled working for others. Around that same time, in late 2017, I was involved in a major car accident that should have taken my life. I walked away without a scratch, and that moment changed everything for me.
It forced me to look at my life differently. For the first time, I truly chose myself.
I was also navigating a lot personally at that time—feeling misunderstood, disconnected in my environment, and searching for a sense of belonging. That experience, combined with everything I had been feeling internally, pushed me to take a leap. With the support of my parents, I started my first business, Cynn’s Beauty Bar, out of a small room in their home.
I didn’t start from a place of confidence—I started from a place of survival. It was very much a “sink or swim” moment, and I chose to swim.
Over the next few years, I grew my business from the ground up. I moved into my first studio, built a loyal client base, and navigated the many ups and downs of entrepreneurship. There were challenges—burnout, difficult business decisions, and learning how to trust myself—but each experience shaped me into a stronger business owner.
In 2023, after years of personal growth and healing, I rebranded to Unveiled Aesthetics. That rebrand wasn’t just about the business—it was a reflection of my own journey. I had spent years unlearning, healing, and reconnecting with myself, and I wanted my business to reflect that deeper purpose.
Today, Unveiled Aesthetics is about more than beauty services. It’s about helping people feel seen, confident, and connected to themselves. I’ve incorporated a more holistic approach into my work, including energy healing, which ties back to my roots and my natural intuition.
Looking back, I’m grateful for every challenge, every setback, and every moment that forced me to grow. I no longer run my business from a place of proving something or survival—I run it from a place of purpose.
And I’m just getting started.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Building a business from the ground up—especially at a young age—came with a lot of trial and error, and many moments where I had to learn things the hard way.
In the beginning, I was in survival mode. At one point, I used to say my business saved my life—and in many ways, it did. It gave me purpose and something to build during a time when I felt lost. I was working long hours, trying to do everything myself, and putting a lot of pressure on myself to make it work. Burnout became very real, and I had to learn how to create structure and boundaries within my business so it could be sustainable long-term.
There were also challenges when it came to trusting others. As I tried to grow and expand, not every collaboration or decision worked out the way I had hoped. Some experiences taught me difficult lessons about leadership, protecting my energy, and the importance of trusting my intuition—even when it’s uncomfortable.
Like many small business owners, the pandemic brought its own set of challenges. Navigating closures while still having financial responsibilities forced me to become more adaptable and resilient.
At the same time, many of these struggles were happening alongside my personal growth. I was learning how to heal, set boundaries, and choose myself in ways I hadn’t before. That inner work directly impacted how I showed up in my business.
Looking back, I don’t see those challenges as setbacks anymore—they were necessary. They helped shape not only the business I’ve built, but the person I’ve become.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Unveiled Aesthetics?
Unveiled Aesthetics is a boutique skincare and beauty studio focused on helping clients feel confident, cared for, and truly seen. While I specialize in customized facials, advanced skincare treatments, brows, lash lifts, and bridal makeup, what I offer goes beyond just the services themselves.
My approach is highly personalized. I take the time to understand each client’s skin, lifestyle, and goals so that every treatment is tailored specifically to them. No two faces or experiences are the same, and I believe beauty should reflect that.
Over time, Unveiled Aesthetics has grown within the Kansas City community through word-of-mouth and client relationships, which has been one of the most meaningful parts of building my brand.
What really sets Unveiled Aesthetics apart is the intention behind the experience. As an esthetician, I’ve learned that self-care is deeply connected to how we feel mentally and emotionally. Many clients come in not just for their skin, but for a space where they can relax, reset, and feel taken care of.
I’ve also incorporated a more holistic and intentional approach into my work, creating an environment where clients can fully unwind and reconnect with themselves. Clients often tell me they leave feeling lighter, calmer, and more grounded—not just refreshed on the surface.
The name Unveiled Aesthetics represents that philosophy. My goal isn’t to change how someone looks, but to help unveil the best version of themselves—both inside and out.
What I’m most proud of, brand-wise, is the trust and relationships I’ve built with my clients. Many of them have been with me for years, and being a part of their routines, milestones, and confidence journeys means everything to me.
At the end of the day, Unveiled Aesthetics is about more than beauty—it’s about creating a space where people feel safe, supported, and empowered to show up as their most confident selves.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something that might surprise people is how intuitive I am and how much energy awareness plays a role in the work I do. My grandma in Mexico was known for healing people using herbs, tinctures, and energy work. Growing up, I didn’t fully understand it, but as I got older, I realized I had a similar sensitivity to people’s emotions and energy.
For a long time, I actually thought something was wrong with me because I could feel what others were feeling so strongly. It took a lot of personal growth and self-reflection for me to understand that it was actually a gift.
That curiosity eventually led me to become certified in Reiki energy healing, which gave me a deeper understanding of the energy I’ve always been able to sense in others.
I’m also bilingual, and that’s a big part of who I am. It allows me to connect with people on a deeper level and create a space where clients feel seen, understood, and comfortable being themselves.
It’s also one of the things that makes Unveiled Aesthetics a little different. Beauty has always been my craft, but helping people reconnect with themselves and feel confident in who they are is the deeper purpose behind what I do.
