Hi Cristina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started my marketing journey a few years ago when I transitioned from teaching to corporate copywriting. That’s where my passion for social media really began to take shape. While working in the industry, I noticed a significant multicultural gap in marketing agencies. At the same time, I realized I missed the sense of purpose and community impact I had as a teacher. Those realizations sparked the idea to launch my own social media agency, Social by Cristina, to help businesses connect authentically to a wider audience while making a more impactful and direct difference in the community.

I began by working with trial clients and slowly built my presence on Instagram to showcase my work. Within six months, my business had grown enough for me to match my corporate take-home pay, allowing me to leave my job and pursue this dream full-time. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m so proud to combine creativity, community, and impact through the work I do.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road; my biggest obstacle was myself. Believing I was capable was a challenge and imposter syndrome hit hard, especially since I’ve always been someone who valued structure, stability, and following the rules—traits that don’t naturally align with entrepreneurship. It took a lot of courage and intentional reprogramming of my mindset to take the leap and start my business.

Books like Unlearn by Humble the Poet and Atomic Habits by James Clear, along with empowering podcasts, high-vibrational music, and reflecting on past successes, played a huge role in shifting my perspective. Now, when self-doubt creeps in, I remind myself of what I’ve already achieved. Those moments of reflection help me embrace my strengths, embody success, and continue building toward an even brighter future.

Whether it’s crafting a tailored content strategy or capturing dynamic reels during in-person shoots, we handle it all—so business owners can focus on what they do best.

Social by Cristina also does behind-the-scenes for events like photoshoots, festivals, and speaking engagements. I’ve found that my sweet spot lies in working with restaurants in the KC area and wellness brands, but I’m always excited to partner with businesses that want to connect authentically with their customers.

I’m especially proud of how we simplify the process for business owners. Every step of my process is designed with them in mind, keeping their needs a priority and making the experience smooth and stress-free. From day one, my goal has been to help businesses not just succeed but thrive in a competitive digital landscape, all while making them feel heard, valued, and confident in their online presence.

It’s about more than just content, it’s about creating a lasting impact and helping businesses shine in ways they never thought possible.

What are your plans for the future?
I’m excited to continue offering social media management and focus on creating more behind-the-scenes content for some of Kansas City’s bigger events. Capturing the energy, connection, and magic that happens behind the curtain is something I’ve really enjoyed, and I can’t wait to partner with more local events to bring those moments to life.
Looking further ahead, I’m planning to launch coaching services for aspiring social media managers. It’s all about growth, both for the businesses I work with and for the next generation of social media professionals. I’m excited to keep evolving, taking on new challenges, and continuing to make an impact in Kansas City and beyond.
