Hidden Gems: Meet Alexander Baird of BodsByBaird Personal Training

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexander Baird.

Hi Alexander, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a 27 years old Dr. of Occupational Therapy and current owner/trainer of BBB Personal Training LLC, born in Papillion, NE but, raised in Overland Park, KS!

I am married to my beautiful wife Callie, who is an esthetician, and I have one handsome son named Rowan who was born 7/14/21 as well as two dogs named: Evie & Indie. We currently own a house in Kansas City, KS near the legends and absolutely LOVE being active.

I am a 2012 high school graduate of Blue Valley High school where I was a student athlete! 2016 graduate of Baker University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science where I also had the privilege of competing as a student athlete as well, participating in both Football and Track & Field as a defensive back, sprinter and jumper. Lastly, a 2019 graduate of The University of Indianapolis Doctor of Occupational therapy program. I am also certified exercise physiologist through the American College of Sports Medicine (cert # 1045928)

All through undergrad you truly believe you know exactly what you want to do at that time but in reality, the brain maturity has not even scratched the surface of your potential/realization of what you can accomplish from an entrepreneurial lens. I truly did love/have a passion for the field of Occupational Therapy and had an amazing experience at the University of Indianapolis. I learned SO much about the human body and the mechanics in hopes to help individuals restore independence through physical and mental intervention. Three years of my life spent in Indy truly helped me grow and mature as a man and I use all of my education and experience during that time in my present day life.

During my time in graduate school, I decided that I wanted to apply my undergrad studies and take a part-time job as a personal trainer in hopes to make a little bit of income to help out my wife who at the time was a full-time teacher! Little did I know… this “part-time gig” turned into a passion far beyond my understanding and… I found myself growing and gravitating towards this profession in a way that kind of scared me while in grad school. I would often find myself in class/lecture working on developing the BBB brand/logo/business model and educating myself on the fitness and nutrition industry. In addition.. using my free time outside of grad school work to develop client programs and attempting to find ways to better myself for those clients!

I was typically in class/clinical from 8 am – 4 pm and then would train clients at the gym from 4pm – 8pm daily! I remember being SO eager to get to the gym… that I would often lose focus during school! This is the exact moment I knew that I was in a career dilemma… and eventually would have to make a decision.

Ultimately… I ended up finishing out my degree, taking the boards, and applying for a few local OT positions in the Kansas metro.. while simultaneously registering my business as an LLC and beginning the client recruiting process.

I became so engraved in creating a community-based brand for personal training that went further than just physical exercise by taking on a mental health approach ensuring that I was involved in ALL aspects of my client’s journey… and I prided myself on this personalization.

In 2018/2019, I decided to go full-time with my business and push to grow the BBB brand into a staple community in Kansas City!

Fast forward to present day… and I have hired my first employee, created a community of well over 100 individuals for onsite training and 100+ for online training!

As a business owner and personal trainer of BodsByBaird Personal Training LLC, I have committed myself to a FULL-SERVICE client approach through: private 1 on 1, small group, and online personal training. I am currently based out of Leawood, KS at B.A.R. Gym located off of 435 and Roe.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Working 16 hour days mostly through grad school and through the first two years of business. I would say it has been an absolute struggle in the BEST way.

Putting all of your eggs in one basket and moving to another city to pursue a career you ultimately did not follow through with after graduation was definitely a bumpy road… but no regrets on this as it built me to be who I am today!

Sacrificing a lot of social events and free time to develop a business model and strive to perfect a branding approach.

Self-teaching business, finance, marketing, etc.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
BBB PT LLC is a FULL service clientele approach! My business model is not your average “personal trainer” model as I truly strive to reach my clients at a deeper level and help them advance their lives both physically AND mentally.

I currently have an AWESOME community filled with so many different ages and levels of experience making each session an opportunity for meeting new people or growing relationships with regulars.

I don’t have a specific specialization as I take a well-rounded approach in 1 on 1 private training, small group training, and virtual/online training!

Currently, the most popular service offered is BBB Small Group Training! Which is four people per group in a high-intensity, muscle-specific 45 minute session. Small group training schedule goes live on the 3RD Thursday of every month @ 8 pm which allows you to sign up for the following month!

I have become so committed to my business and community that I want nothing more than for my people to have a place to call theirs in addition to transforming their lives into a habitual/sustainable lifestyle!

I am currently based out of Leawood, KS at B.A.R. Gym located off of 435 and Roe.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Mentoring and networking opportunities in the area are readily AVAILABLE and social media has allowed for this to be even more accessible! I often find myself networking through social and meeting other local business owners regularly!
