Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Clement.
Adam, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I earned Bachelors degree is Personal Financial Planning from Kansas State University and my Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Abilene Christian University. I specialize in couples counseling and fostering emotional maturity. In 2015, I moved to Kansas City and joined a non-profit group called Christian Psychological Services (CPS). While I was building up my private practice at CPS, I also worked at two different hospitals doing mental health assessments and running therapy groups. In 2017 the board of directors of CPS sold the company and I, along with roughly 10 other therapists, came together to run CPS ourselves. It was during this time that my colleague Rachael and I stepped in to run most of the administration and business side for the group while also operating our own private practices. After a few years of this structure, Rachael and I worked to launch our own company, Doors of Hope (DoH), where we would partner up and take on employees to provide counseling services. Given my degree in business and Rachael growing up in a family of entrepreneurs, we were very passionate about both the clinical side of running a practice and also teaching other therapists the business and professional side. We wanted to help foster other clinicians to provide quality care and also maintain there business within burning out or failing at the business process as we had seen with other colleagues over the years. Doors of Hope is a faith based practice that offers evidenced based treatment, spirituality integration, and professional development. We have been operating since 2021 and currently have thirteen therapists with a variety of specialties.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There were certainly some struggles along the way. It took several years to build up a private practice, while also starting a family and working at the hospital. When the board sold the nonprofit, it was quite a challenging time to transition from an employee to a part owner of a practice with less than two years in the field. Luckily I had great support from my colleagues and family. My partner and I learned a great deal in a short amount of time how to run the business side of a group practice and ultimately grew through the challenges to trust each other and ourselves to the point of starting our new company, Doors of Hope. It took a few years to start seeing the benefit of our investment, but we have enjoyed bringing on our staff and developing a supportive and engaging community of providers. I believe the stress, uncertainty, and struggles, challenging though they were at the time, offered opportunity for growth and collaboration to create the success DoH is currently experiencing.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Doors of Hope?
Doors of Hope a a faith based counseling practice. We have a dozen therapists that special in a variety of areas including, trauma, grief, addiction, and relationships. I specialize in couples counseling and helping foster emotional maturity. By advertising and offering Christian value integration, we have carved out a niche market in a field becoming progressively less spiritually inclined. Therefore we have many clients find us specifically because they searched for “Christian counseling”. We also a very proud to showcase our therapists by hosting monthly continuing education for other practitioners lead by our therapists in there areas of expertise. By focusing on our 3 pillars of faith integration, case collaboration, and professional development, we have attracted and invested in courageous and compassionate counselors.
Any big plans?
As Doors of Hope has become more successful each year, it has offered opportunity to spent time with my family and work on writing a book on emotional maturity. We have been also able to take on and train graduate level interns and hope to continue to foster good relationships with local universities. We are also hoping, with the help of our therapists, to offer different groups in our newly renovated group room.
