Hidden Gems: Meet Aaron Thakker of ATEC Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Thakker.

Hi Aaron, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was raised by a single mom for most of my life. I started getting into trouble in 6th grade and went downhill from there. We didn’t have a lot of money growing up, so I found ways to make money by selling drugs. By the ninth grade, I was on adult supervision probation. I continued to make terrible choices and ended up in a Youth Correctional Facility. After I was released, I moved to Eudora and stayed with some family. I did everything I could to follow my conditions of release, so I could move on with my life. I ended up completing what I was supposed to and was no longer on probation. That didn’t last very long. I got busted again and was now 17. The police officer took me to the juvenile detention center, where I ran into my old conditions of release officer. She was super upset with me but promised to help with whatever I needed. She actually had high hopes for me! It was at that moment that I realized someone actually believed in me and helped me get back on the right track and practically wrote off my wrongs.

After that, I didn’t want to let her down. I straightened up, and I got a real job! I ended up having my first child at the age of 18. That changed everything for me and opened my eyes. My goal in life now is to make sure every kid has the same opportunity to feel like they have a chance. No matter what situation they are in or what they’ve done, they matter and can succeed in life. They can do or be whatever they want. Their current situation doesn’t matter. I try to help children and youth have the most positive experience as possible, wherever they may be, a community shelter, a behavioral health hospital, a group home… My goal is to put a smile on their face while they are there. It’s not their final destination but a part of their journey. I have been blessed in many ways, and so I hope to bless others. Life has turned out pretty amazing. I own and operate a few different businesses focusing on general contracting, electrical contracting, plumbing, concrete pumping, and structural steel. I have five beautiful kids and another on the way. I’ve been blessed with an amazing wife that shares the same passion as I do! I don’t regret any decision I’ve ever made. It’s made me the person I am today.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I haven’t really had any obstacles. I’ve been extremely blessed.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We own a general contracting company, electrical contracting company, plumbing company, concrete company, concrete pumping company, and also a structural and ornamental steel company.
