Today we’d like to introduce you to Trish Mitchell.
Hi Trish, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Trish Mitchell. I was born and raised in Kansas City. I am the mother of 3 adult sons and one adult daughter. My background is in Banking and finance, but I quickly learned that Banking was not my passion. Right around the age of 35 (after the birth of my 4th child), I started to realize that there had to be more in life.
I had many passions but was not operating in any of them. So, I began to pursue the things that I was most passionate about, one at a time. I love to write, and I possess a solid command of the English language. The first book I wrote was the autobiography called “Testify”. This story was the beginning of me fulfilling my passion to change lives and have a positive impact on others. From there I started writing the children’s book series called Noah Pals. Noah pals is a series that teaches children the importance of kindness, acceptance, patience, and sharing.
After hearing about the rate of childhood obesity in our country, I decided to create a line of children’s activewear called “Go Baby Go”. This line was designed to remind children of the importance of staying active and never stop going in pursuit of their dreams. My love for writing inspired me to begin writing, directing, and producing live theater.
I have since produced multiple stages plays through my production company “Bees Knees Productions.” All productions are designed to uplift, encourage, and inspire others to believe they can make it. With all I was doing to help others, I decided to create a business just for me to have fun. So, I started designing a line of eyewear called “ish eyewear”. It’s beautiful, quality, affordable eyewear for the entire family, Ish eyewear has since taken a life of its own and is not a full-time business.
At the onset of Covid, I decided to become certified in Life Coaching. In 2021 I launched my practice, “Limitless Life Coaching.” I am a certified Life Coach with an additional certification in “Cognitive Behavioral Techniques”. I wanted to do more for Black-Owned Small Businesses in my community, so I launched my very own magazine called “All Black Everything Magazine”. This publication has been thriving now for over a year, bringing awareness to finance, and healthcare, while allowing Black-Owned businesses a space to advertise for free.
The magazine also allows a space to highlight the “Black Lives Matter: movement. Needless to say, I stay pretty busy with all of my business ventures. I would like to someday create my very own cologne for women.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has not been smooth. I have had to finance all of my businesses out of my own pocket. I also do all of my own marketing and promotions.
With the magazine, I received a lot of push-back from some because the publication is a focus on marginalized communities who don’t have access to mainstream magazines and advertising dollars. I have received feedback that my live theater productions are too controversial and that I should “water down” the subject matter.
I just refuse to do so. I have worked hard to keep all of my businesses running and find a work-life balance. It has not been easy, but it has been worth it!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about All Black Everything Magazine?
Among my other businesses, I would like to highlight All Black Everything Magazine. All Black Everything magazine’s mission is to inspire, motivate, and educate those who seek such.
No matter their age, color, or background, we aspire to equip them with tools to end social inequality and open opportunities for the advancement of generational wealth. “ABE Magazine” has since become a Non-Profit Company.
We are looking to grow into a company that will employ hundreds and promotes thousands of those in our very own communities who might not otherwise have marketing opportunities. We are open to all donations and support to help further our mission.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I would like to acknowledge my Co-Editor Angelo Wright, Jr, and my Finance Columnist E.A. Hawthorne for their support of this vision.
I would also like to thank my newly formed Board of Directors for stepping up to the task. I also want to thank my children for their support, and my fiancé for being there every step of the way.
Without the support system in place, I could not do what I do! All credit for the woman I have become is given to God, and my amazingly strong and willful mother, for raising me to have tenacity and assertiveness.
