Exploring Life & Business with Tonya Round of Well Rounded Events, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tonya Round

Hi Tonya, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always loved throwing a party!

The beginning is not typical of where I ended. I catered my 5-year High School Reunion and said I would never do that again. It was hard and exhausting. Fast forward, I discovered that working in restaurants was the easiest way to attend and pay for college – so there I was. I have spent 40+ years in the Hospitality Industry in about every area you can imagine. My career led me to being The Director of Catering of Garozzo’s Ristorante for 11 years. I knew nothing about catering when I started [besides my experience years ago], but by the end, I’d executed thousands of events—and I guess I was hooked!

The knowledge I gained and the people I met along the way, combined with my love of throwing parties is how Well Rounded Events came to be. I wanted to help others create a great party!!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Honestly, it has been a little easier than I thought it would be.

The biggest struggle I have faced is how to get out of my own way. You can’t do everything and grow or scale. Deciding where your time is best spent and what you can trust and afford to farm out, i.e. Bookkeeping, social media, menu creation, selling, washing dishes, etc…

It was a scary decision to give up a great consistent job and paycheck in the beginning however, I found that it is far scarier when you are at the point where you need resources and people to grow and to have faith in your plan that the revenue will be there. The whole build it and they will come thing.

You have to have the people to have the revenue, and you have to have the revenue to have the people

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Well Rounded Events, LLC?
We are small but mighty!!! We take the responsibility of what we have promised to heart. The old saying ‘Under promise and over deliver’ is not just a saying to us, it is a belief [probably to a fault].

We take business seriously, but not ourselves. We think we should not only alleviate stress from our clients, but what’s wrong with a little laughter through the process. After all they are putting together a gathering of colleges or family – isn’t it supposed to fun?

We are not pigeonholed into a style of food, service or event. We evolve and grow at the request of our clients. I am sure there are limitations out there for us, but we have yet to meet them. We love a challenge and absolutely love being creative with food, presentations and displays.

Having been in the industry for over 40 years, (when you meet me, you are going to say that is impossible she looks so young 😀) I have an amazing pool of talented people that I can call that have the same ideology, attention to detail and creativity that I have.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Visiting my grandparents in the summer for a couple of weeks and being the only one there. Getting ALL of their attention.

They went out to eat Monday – Friday so that was also pretty much my first introduction to restaurants and dining out. I loved it!!!

One of the very first times they took me out to eat, I was probably about 5 or so and I came running after my grandpa to give him the money he ‘forgot’ on the table – awww A TIP – something I would come to understand later in life 🙂
