Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Ford.
Hi Taylor, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have been intrigued by photography since middle school. I have always recognized and appreciated beautifully taken photos. Once in high school, my parents bought me a camera. I enrolled in photography classes and art classes to perfect my ability to compose aesthetic images. I love both scenery and portrait photography. Portraits because it encapsulates a moment of time for someone to remember forever. I love scenery photography because it creates unique art to express my love for the beauty of nature. These images print wonderfully on canvases for unique wall art. My goal as a photographer is to be able to give everyone something that will last a lifetime. I choose to charge less than other photographers because I think everyone deserves beautiful portraits of themselves and their family.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Luckily, I have had enough support from my family to make my journey easier. As a lot of people know, photography equipment is quite expensive. It’s more than just a camera. Because of this, the decision to become a photographer is quite a risky investment. However, once I made the commitment to go all in, I never looked back. Even when I’m not getting bookings, the opportunity to create one of a kind art at any time is just as worth it for myself.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I treat my business as what it truly is… ART! Photography is not a science. Every shoot is unique and different from the last. I specialize in senior photos and children but I’ve done so much more than that as well. I love spending time with families and getting to know everyone’s story while giving them images to last a lifetime. I base my prices off the fact that everyone deserves beautiful photos, not only the wealthy. I have recently decided to put more emphasis on selling one-of-a-kind wall art as well. This usually depicts beautiful images of the great outdoors. This means, I print an image on canvas one time ever to ensure that the buyer has completely unique artwork. It comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by me. I’ve been known to do weddings, senior photos, families, maternity, children, wall art and more!
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important thing I’ve learned on this journey is that things don’t have to go according to plan to be wonderful. Early on, I found myself getting upset when the image didn’t look like the reference photo. However, I realized the photos could be even more beautiful without going 100% to plan. While, it can be nice to have an example sometimes, straying from the example doesn’t make it wrong. Once, I showed up to a shoot and it immediately started pouring rain. I was worried and upset until the rain went away in just a few minutes and the sky became even more beautiful than before. The plan isn’t always the best course of action!
