Exploring Life & Business with Tasha Rene of Sylvalite Candles and more and BossUpAcademy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tasha Rene.

Hi Tasha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Tasha Rene, I make scented candles and memorial candles for loss loved ones by putting their picture on a candle to forever remember them. I started my business in 2019 honoring my late mother Sylvia Miller who passed in 2016 and it changed my life completely!!!
I have four amazing children, Tayveon 12, Dominick 11, Elijah 6, Sydnei 5 , I’m starting our legacy with all my support systems. LaShaun, Sylvester, Damien, Darrell, Tracy, and Johnnisha. The Miller Legacy!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I struggled alot with being knowledgeable of what business owners go through. Everyone makes it look so easy but it’s not! I had to realize that challenges come with success.I suffered from depression for years and ended up distancing myself from my family and friends. That’s just how I wanted to grieve. Just when I was coming out of my dark place. In 2019, I lost my big brother Terrance Miller on my mother’s birthday. My little brother Jamar Nevels lost his life in 2010 which I never got the closure for. The pain was steady coming in and I couldn’t take it no more. How do you deal with grief? My family took a lot of loss, but no one really knew how to get through it. Death was around my kids constantly and there was nothing I could do.

I kept saying I wanna turn this pain into something positive, I refused to go to that dark place again!!! I had a lead at my job constantly pushing us to start a business and reminding us that you don’t wanna take orders from people all your life! So I really didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life, should I start a boutique? Should I sell shoes? My heart wasn’t into it so I knew it would fail. An it hit me to start a candle business honoring her them.

As you know, we’re big fans of Sylvalite Candles and more and BossUpAcademy. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
My scented candles are 100% soy wax and memorial candles are non scented for decor use only. Knowing I can relate to all my customers is the best part of my business.

My group BossUp Academy, where entrepreneurs come together, host events, share experiences and advice, just making it to the top together. I’ll say I’m most proud of all the support I got, everyone knows me of hosting monthly pop up shops/ business brunch’s

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like best about our city is we do try to come together to make positive events happen.

What I like the least is the people that don’t allow us to have positive events in the city.
