Today we’d like to introduce you to Steve Yang.
Hi Steve, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my own business in 2015, and this year, we’re proud to celebrate our 10th anniversary! Becoming a wedding videographer was never something I expected—in fact, it all began with a job interview at a well-known wedding videography company in the San Francisco Bay Area. The owner introduced me to this amazing industry, and from there, everything changed.
After working as a full-time videographer and editor, I saw potential in the Kansas City market and decided to take a leap. I’m so glad I did! Kansas City turned out to be the perfect place—it’s a welcoming, supportive community where wedding vendors truly look out for one another.
In our fourth year here, we were honored to be named “Videographer of the Year” at the Kansas City Vendor Choice Awards, and we received another award in 2022. We’re incredibly proud that our couples are happy with their films and experiences.
I set a high bar for every wedding we film—if we haven’t watched a film at least ten times ourselves, we won’t deliver it to the client. That level of care and dedication is something we promise to uphold.
Feel free to check out our 5-star reviews on social media and Google. We’re grateful for the last 10 years and excited to continue serving couples with the same passion and commitment in the years ahead!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I feel incredibly lucky to have had so many friends and fellow vendors who were willing to support me along the way. One thing I’ve learned is that you have to consistently show your passion—when people see your dedication and enjoy working with you, referrals naturally follow.
If I’ve faced any challenges, it’s probably the language barrier, since English isn’t my first language. Sometimes I need a bit more time to process or interpret things, but I’ve never minded that. I’m always eager to learn and grow every single day.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Moontage Films is one of the leading cinematography and videography services in the Kansas City area, as well as for destination weddings. We specialize in creating unforgettable films for love stories, weddings, business events, and more. At the heart of everything we do is you.
Our owner and lead videographer, Steve Yang, defines his unique style as “Music Montage”—a seamless blend of rhythm, visuals, and voiceover that captures the emotion of your most cherished moments. We view the “moon” as a symbol of love, new beginnings, and happy endings—perfectly mirroring the journey of a wedding day.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
One of my hobbies that ties into my business is collecting vintage lenses. Many videographers often ask why my films have a unique look, and the answer is simple: I use vintage lenses instead of modern ones. These lenses offer a distinct aesthetic—playing with color, sharpness, and background blur in ways that create a timeless, cinematic feel. I’ve always enjoyed doing things a little differently, and it’s one of the things that sets my work apart!
