Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Kuhnert.
Hi Ryan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Kuhnert’s Candles LLC started in 2021 when I, Ryan Kuhnert, became tired of the corporate lifestyle. Working myself into the ground and always admiring creative people from a distance. I, too, wanted to create things and make a living! Well… I poured my first candle and started a revolution! It is now my life’s mission to create; as well as help others find their own original spark.
After 4 years in business we have grown to over 40 retail partnerships while also shifting my career to teach middle school English full time..
I sincerely hope you enjoy lighting a Kuhnert’s candle as much as I did creating it for you.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been pretty smooth, but a couple of blunders come to mind. When I first launched I really had no idea what I was doing and made about 100 candles with the wrong sized wick. They tunneled poorly and did not burn well at all. It was a disheartening and valuable lesson in testing before mass producing.
Another fun lesson came from what I call the Great Wax Spill of 2023. I had forgotten to close the spicket on my wax melter after heating up 12 lbs of wax for a batch of candles and walked away. I returned to find wax all over the table, my box of labels drenched (many ruined) and the floor covered in wax. It was a disaster. I double and triple check the nozzle during every batch now. I also don’t venture far when melting wax.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Kuhnert’s Candles are a superior product because we emphasize creating a great smelling natural candle that looks classy and burns well. We use a wax blend made of soy, coconut and beeswax that burns slowly and is rich with fragrance.
However, what really sets Kuhnert’s Candles apart is that our candles are created with high conscious intentionality during their creation so that the customer not only enjoys the physical sensations of their candle, but receives a positive vibrational shift burning it as well. It takes burning just one of Kuhnert’s Candles to smell, see, and feel the difference between it and other candle brands.
How do you define success?
Success is the freedom of being able to use my unique set of skills and abilities to make the greatest impact. Success is improving myself, my community and the world through my actions.
