Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Ferguson “Silk”.
Hi Rebecca, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Thank you for having me, I appreciate the opportunity. My name is Rebecca Ferguson but I go by my actor name, "Rebecca Silk". I am a Mixed Christian American from
Garland, TX; that is part of the Dallas metroplex. Growing up I was very shy and kept
to myself but through the Fine Arts programs I was able to express myself. Plus, my
communication skills improved when I started working in the Event Brand Marketing
industry after college.
In Fine Arts my past experience was being a musician as a French Horn player for 8
years until community college when I decided to venture into being part of the first
dance squad for the school. I was part of the creation of the team, “Showstoppers”,
with our lead Tiffanie Turner for Richland Community College in Dallas, TX. The
name Silk was then created during that time frame since people kept saying that my
dance moves were silky smooth. I decided to create my business name and use it
moving forward for the Entertainment realm.
After I graduated in 2009, I created a second dance squad, became a dance teacher
with Diversified Youth Services, and started choreographing with Natasha Kirby,
beginning my backup dancer career with local artists or artists that traveled through
Dallas. Local artists such as Taronica Reed, Brandon Lesterof "High Five", Kenya
Nicole, Shalya Dinh, and Michelle “Mimi”Sanchez. Then I was discovered by a
Brazilian model while working at Dillards and she taught me how to be a runway
model. Which led me to walk in the Dallas Fashion Week representing a variety of
brands. To this day I enjoy collaborating with photographers to create amazing
photos.
In 2012 I found my first acting job on Craigslist, apparently I survived. They were
short films directed by Baba Magana, a Nigerian director who traveled to Arlington,
TX and showed his films back in Nigeria. I then traveled to Shreveport, LA, to
audition as a dancer with Legacy Casting for an episode on Salem (WGN/FOX
Network) and booked the job. After that one scene, the next day I worked as an Extra,
and then got promoted to be Ashley Madeke’s Stand-In/double for her character
Tabitha. I even got the chance to read her lines on set with the Director before she
joined. It was an interesting experience starting as an Extra and then becoming a crew
member. Great networking. One of my longest days was at least 14 hours working
overnight.
Those crew members gave me tips to travel to Baton Rouge for another project,
where I was part of the Crew again working as a Stand In for the actress, Alexis
Knapp, with her character Stacey in Pitch Perfect 2. You can surprisingly catch me in
the auditorium since they made me an Extra one day. Then finally, I drove to New
Orleans to work shortly on the first Jurassic World. I encourage anyone to take the
experience of being an Extra on set so you can observe and learn. You can find Extra
jobs on mycastingfile.com.
Let’s get to the reason why I am in VoyagerKC. I relocated to Kansas City in 2017,
and got signed with The Agency KC which led to being a model for Lee Jeans. In
Acting, I received a lead role in Urban Dream by Abe Brown and then as a Detective
in a T.V. Pilot called "What Comes Around" by Baron Redman. I took some classes at
Park University, involved in a variety of organizations dedicated towards the art and
history of Kansas City. Also got the opportunity to enjoy the talents of the Opera with
good friends Benny & Edith Lee. I lived in Kansas City, MO for 2 years until I
decided it was time to get back to Texas.
In 2019, I returned to Dallas, and started receiving roles in Christian based films. Such
as, a Lead role in Separated by Andre Looney, and Co-Starred in Dry Places. Then I
received a Lead role in the comedy drama Top 5 Weekend filmed by Marcus Wallace
in San Antonio and a horror film called Passages of Nexus by Alex Nigo in Dallas,
TX. Many of these films are on a variety of streaming platforms.
I got the itch again to try something new. I needed a reboot, new motivation, and
challenged myself to live in a place where I barely knew anyone. I hopped over to Las
Vegas in 2022, In 2023 got to volunteer for the Dam Short Film Festival in Boulder
City, NV and did photo shoots with the Las Vegas Modeling Mavericks group. I made
fabulous friends which I found at a coffee shop, called Convo Coffee plus many
others through business networking. Then the summer of 2024, Texas has pulled me
back home.
Now I spend time with my dog, Winter, an 8 year old Great Pyrenees, catching up
with family/old friends, and growing my small business. It is called Mary Roger’s
Agency, a business and operations consulting company. The name is dedicated to my
parents and I’m into craft making under my company name, Seda Vision. Many don’t
know I have returned, so working on myself spiritually, becoming healthier, and
preparing to get back to the hustle of Acting. Lastly, I am a member of the Dallas
Women in Film and SHRM organizations.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
To this day, I believe my cup is half full, always learning, and nothing is ever easy. I struggled internally due to being shy, had low self esteem, and low confidence in
myself. Being new in the entertainment industry everyone is pitching ice cream
sundaes with the best cherries on top however they turn out to be users, scammers,
thieves, and liars. It took many years to figure out who was genuine, learn when to
observe vs talk, and how to brand myself to achieve the opportunities that I wanted.
Due to being a Mixed American has been the hardest, people (casting
agents/directors) had their own opinion of which role I should obtain. I could never
get an African-American character since they would think I don’t look like one.
Although, my mother was Caucasian (grand parents from Norway/Finland), and my
father was African-American/French. Being Ambiguous can be a positive and a
negative. The daily goal is to convince that person you are the one despite what they
think.
I didn’t get into acting until my early/mid 20s. Never took acting classes but wanted
to play with the other kids. Even when I took a few classes with Beth Bontley at
S.T.A.G.E, and Gail Croanuer. It was still a struggle to close and land a role.
In this industry, you have to study daily and continuously study. If it is with an Acting
coach, reading, watching a film, listening to a radio, and the best lesson is learning
from life to shape your craft.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
This company name is dedicated to my parents who passed away from cancer in 2009. I offer services in business management and operations consulting. My background in
Brand Marketing of 10 years led me to my current aspirations involving Human
Resources and Employee/Corporate Law.
I offer a 15 minute complimentary consultation to learn more about your company’s
needs and provide an overview of how I can be of assistance.
I had a tendency of collecting people, building relationships, and maintaining them
throughout the years. Always giving advice to those who sought it or encouraging
someone to take a leap of faith. The people I met in person or virtually have now
evolved in owning a business, became an investor, a celebrity, or decided to start over
from scratch. I’m known to be a reliable person for someone who was seeking
guidance.
It wasn’t always about business when keeping these relationships. I like to know how
someone is doing, good or bad. One encouraging word can be healing for someone
else.
Past client projects I have assisted on:
– Hiring, Training, and Building a Team.
-Implementing program management and ATS software.
– Brand Marketing campaign
– Introducing Investors
– Providing a lawyer or research on educating for HR/Employment/Business law in
their industry/state.
– etc.
We all have obstacles that we seek to find solutions to. If a new business owner or an
established one. Having a second set of eyes to evaluate and help you accomplish
goals is what I am here for.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me. I was surprised that I was in consideration since I no longer reside in the area. Kansas City has been a positive
highlight in my life and will never be forgotten. Love the community from
entertainment/arts, local businesses, local churches, restaurants, and more. The day
that the Kansas City Chiefs became my neighboring team next to the heart of the
Dallas Cowboys.

there for each of you..
