Exploring Life & Business with Rachel Dicke of Clothes Mentor – Lee’s Summit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Dicke.

Hi Rachel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Clothes Mentor offers a variety of women’s apparel, shoes, handbags, and accessories at prices up to 70% off retail. The Lee’s Summit location opened in 2010 as a women’s resale franchise. I bought the store in 2024 after spending 15 years in marketing and advertising agencies leading strategy and delivering campaigns. In my agency experience, I worked with national brands and multi-million dollar clients and learned a lot along the way. Most importantly, I gained the confidence of building client’s businesses through marketing execution. In 2024, I felt a passion to build my own company while leveraging the expertise of a franchise partnership. Today, Clothes Mentor is the go-to high end and gently used women’s store in the Lee’s Summit (and beyond) area.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Partnering with a franchise has been a game changer. I always tell people that, while I’m passionate about sustainability, my skill set is aligned and best utilized in growing teams and businesses. The franchise helps with the business planning and goal setting, as well as the fine details of inventory, pricing, and floor management. We had a mass team turnover when I bought the store and began realigning to franchise standards. Unfortunately, that was necessary to accelerate the business into the next echelon of growth. Finding the right team members has been imperative to growing the business and presenting ourselves as thought leaders in resale fashion.

We’ve been impressed with Clothes Mentor – Lee’s Summit, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Clothes Mentor Lee’s Summit is a women’s resale store offering apparel, shoes, handbags, and accessories at up to 70% off retail pricing. We offer top brands and authenticate our luxury accessories to ensure quality and trust. We pay cash on the spot for inventory in our store to women in our communities. We are a woman-owned business that prioritizes local employment and employee growth. What we’re not able to sell gets donated to local women’s shelters.

What were you like growing up?
I was a hard worker who had a big vision for life. I always wanted to be a leader who works for the greater good.
