Exploring Life & Business with Michael Rodriguez of RivalsBBQ

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Rodriguez.

Hi Michael, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My passion started when I was really young and I also come from a line of great cooks in my family so I’m no stranger to making some good meals, coming from a hispanic family and background and competing in a bbq capital was going to definitely be hard but I took the chance also there was an opportunity for me to take a cooking class back in high school so I did and after that with some of the skills I started competing in some bbq competitions, I didn’t get first place but who does on your 1st, 2nd and maybe 3rd time competing well that was the jump I needed to keep going and getting better, so after a few more competitions I got first place over all, so I told my wife lets take a chance at catering and our business took off, more people started really enjoying and trusting us with their events and now here we are after four years of catering, our business is growing by our amazing customers coming back and recommending us because of our yummy flavors and the great customer service we provide!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We definitely had some struggles in the beginning with us figuring out things to better our flavors, our selves and equipment to help our business.

We’ve been impressed with RivalsBBQ LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our business started from our name, Rivals BBQ and it came from us being Raiders fans in chiefs country so the rivalry has always been there so the story behind it goes well with our business name. With us being hispanic, people think we don’t know what we are doing but once they taste our food, they come back with some amazing compliments and the reviews on Facebook cant lie.

Our flavors are different from other places and thats what makes us different plus the love we put in our food and the customers can taste the difference and thats why they keep coming back!!

Catering is what we are sticking with at the moment but we are hoping soon to have a spot for people to come visit us and enjoy our food everyday!

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My whole family, my mother and my wife are my biggest supporters and hopefully, my son can one day take over the business and keep. My dream going!
