Exploring Life & Business with Michael Drone of fNscene Productions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Drone

Hi Michael, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I discovered my passion for storytelling through comic books and movies as a kid. I was an illustrator like my dad, often sketching characters in a notebook during class. I knew I wanted to do something in life that would allow me to express myself artistically, but I admit it took me a while to seriously pursue film as a career option. After 5 and a half years of working in private security, a pandemic, and working from home at a call center, I saved up enough to quit my job and purchase the equipment I needed to start. From there I applied my self-taught YouTube University knowledge to the real world and got my start in music videos which allowed me to express a lot of my creativity. I soon realized there were more opportunities in the wedding, corporate, and documentary world so I applied my skills in those industries as well. Hoping to get a foothold in something that could propel me even further. Since then I’ve worked with many non-profits, businesses and organizations in the Kansas City metropolitan area including United Way, National Society of Black Engineers and Samuel U. Rodgers hospital.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. It rarely ever is for anyone trying to be successful in this world. There’s always gonna be ups and downs and plenty of self doubt along your journey. Hardship forces you to grow and evolve into a stronger person which makes you fight even harder for your dream which is always a good thing.

We’ve been impressed with fNscene Productions, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
fNscene started out as a creativity collective for visual and music artists. The original goal was to develop it into something more similar to AWGE or Lyrical Lemonade. Today it would be best described a content repurposing and marketing agency primarily focused on helping scale businesses and organizations. Now that doesn’t mean we’ve abandoned our creativity ( I have a few unique projects I’m working on as we speak) but it has become more of a business and less like a hobby.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was an imaginative and creative kid, always drawn to storytelling and animation. I spent countless hours immersed in video games too, which sparked my passion for creating my own stories.

Personality-wise, I was more extroverted as a kid than I am as an adult. I got along with everyone and enjoyed socializing. Luckily, I grew up at a time when liking anime and video games was cool, which made it easier to connect with others who shared my interests. I had and still do have a close friend circle mostly consisting of people I met while attending Paseo Academy of Fine and Performing Arts. Each of my closest friends either owns a business or works for themselves. This combination of creativity, artistic expression, and social interaction laid the foundation for my eventual pursuit of video production and entrepreneurship.
