Exploring Life & Business with Meghan Kramer of Scout & Cellar Independent Consultant

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meghan Kramer.

Hi Meghan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started as a consultant with Scout & Cellar at the beginning of 2021. Previously I worked as a physical therapist in an outpatient orthopedic setting for several years. I loved my career but felt the internal pull of continuing my career while having young children. I was on maternity leave with my 3rd son in the fall of 2020. A combination of wanting to be home during my boys’ early years and needing more flexibility for our family during the pandemic led me to consider different options. Our oldest was going to be starting Kindergarten that following fall, and I always dreamed of being present during the drop-off and pick-up routine- something that was not feasible with my current work demands. Upon returning from maternity leave, I transitioned to a PRN role as a physical therapist and started looking at other options to make money while staying home. I wanted to contribute financially to our family, but it needed to be something I could work from home and make my hours based on what was best for my family. A friend mentioned Scout & Cellar as an option. I had no previous experience, minimal knowledge of wine, and never imagined making direct sales. I said yes to the opportunity on a whim, and it has been one of the best decisions ever.

I started amid the pandemic and never looked back. This business has blessed my life with more joy, support, strategy, and creativity than I ever imagined. There are so many positive aspects to having a direct sales business, hidden gems to the surface- community aspect, flexibility, leveraged income, fun, creative outlet, personal development, learning a new skill, and honing in on skills you didn’t know you had. One of my favorite things about network marketing is its inclusivity and diversity- there’s a place for every personality, profession, stage of life, and aspiration in the business, and embracing support is something I didn’t experience with other ventures.

Would it have been a smooth road, and what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been a road filled with a lot of learning. There is the creativity and strategy of learning a new system and maximizing a comp plan, the spark with learning a new skill, staying committed when you don’t see immediate results, and learning the most efficient way to produce the desired results. But the greatest depth of learning has been personal development. I am learning about myself and challenging my mindset. In the past, I have been a perfectionist and very results-oriented regardless of the enjoyment of the process. This process has encouraged me to focus on my progress towards goals, the small wins that add up over time, to challenge myself to grow outside my comfort zone, and to enjoy the journey.

Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Scout & Cellar launched in 2017 on a journey to discover the unknown well. All products- currently wine, coffee, and cooking- meet our clean-crafted commitment standard to create and deliver the highest-quality product. Products are sourced from small grower partnerships with sustainable and biodynamic farming methods worldwide. Each product is independently lab tested twice to ensure it is free of chemical pesticides, artificial processing aids, and no sugar added. Today, the clean-crafted commitment is the most rigorous wine-growing standard in the entire industry.

I am an independent consultant with Scout & Cellar. I work with individuals and businesses to hold tastings and customer appreciation events while sharing Scout & Cellar. I share the benefits of consuming clean products and the business opportunity available. In the first 5+ years since Scout & Cellar opened, we have seen tremendous growth and are projected for a continued, sustainable climb. I am most proud of our company’s value. We deliver a high-quality product backed by a 100% satisfaction guarantee for the customer and free of toxic pesticides, chemical additives, synthetic processing aids, and added sugar. Each product is backed with a soil-to-sip report for full transparency of the ingredients. We support smaller-scale growers and winemakers by celebrating the extra effort in producing their products. We are committed to caring for our planet with recyclable and sustainable packaging- our coffee bags are made from 100% solar power energy! Quality, deliciousness, and transparency are changing the industry to value the product, customer, grower, and Earth.

What matters most to you? Why?
The business opportunity is significant to me. I wanted a job where my family came first, but I also wanted to contribute financially to my family’s income. I needed something flexible around life- school schedules, sports schedules, and everything in between. Often I felt in the limbo of having to choose one or, other-maintain my career or be present with my family and adapt to our changing needs.

I want other people, especially moms, to know that it doesn’t have to be one way or the other. You can have both. It can be different than you ever expected, and that can be a beautiful thing. I never expected or imagined I would be in direct sales. I went to school and earned my doctorate in physical therapy. But those same qualities that made me a great therapist apply to the network marketing world as well- building people relationships, creative thinking, learning a new skill, coach ability, strategy, staying committed, and willingness to fail and try again. It can be nerve-wracking to try something completely new with no previous experience or education, but in reality, many of the same qualities overlap.
