Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Mangiameli.
Hi Matt, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Ever since high school, I’ve bounced around occupations at a rapid pace. I’ve never really known, for sure, what I wanted to do in life and what I wanted to be, but I always felt a drive to start something. That something varied by the month, it seemed some good ideas, some terrible ideas. In August of 2021, myself and some family members tried out disc golf as we had found ourselves looking for a new hobby and we happened to have some pretty basic sets of discs. It only took one game for us all to be hooked on the game, and before long, we were all emotionally and financially invested in this new sport that we all shared. Every chance we got, rain or shine, snow, wind, you name it, we played in it.
The problem we all ran into, however, is that there are quite a few unique courses spread across the Kansas City Metro area, but only a couple of stores that we could go to get our supplies. Especially as new golfers, driving 30 minutes to our nearest store only to walk into a daunting library of foreign plastic wasn’t something we were too keen on to begin with. And even as we began to discover what discs we enjoyed throwing, it was still a bit of a trip to the nearest disc golf store.
Our website, ace16discs.com, officially launched on Friday, October 28, 2022 and we could not be more excited to serve the 816 community.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest hurdle that we’ve faced is that I am brand new to the world of entrepreneurship. I have no education nor training in this profession, only carrying into it the knowledge that I’ve acquired through my various employments over the past decade. Each experience I’ve previously had has seemed to contribute to this adventure in one way or another, making this endeavor truly feel like it was meant to be. My incredible family members have all pitched in some capacity to further the development of this project, but this is certainly a new experience for me and an uphill battle to be sure.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I am 25 years old with no formal education under my belt. With an incredible family’s support and by the grace of God, we have somehow managed to bring this idea to life.
I’ve only been playing disc golf for a little over a year now (and I’m not very good). My best score is a 3 under par at the Legacy Park long basket layout.
