Exploring Life & Business with Marie Gronberg of SMART Restoration

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marie Gronberg.

Hi Marie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I’m most proud of being a wife of 14 years to a supportive and loving husband and mom of two amazing boys. My story starts with how I was raised and saw both sets of grandfathers and entrepreneurs work hard in different service industries to support their families and my parents. My mother grew up on a farm in Abilene, Kansas and I have fond memories of visiting with my younger four brothers to ride the tractor and pick out the ripe watermelons, cantaloupes, and honeydew melons my grandfather would sell.

The other side was my father’s large Italian family in which my grandfather started a company in Kansas City called Anthony Plumbing in 1951. My father worked alongside my grandfather assisting and learning the trade. Later he became a mechanical engineer and bought Anthony Plumbing with my uncle. He then expanded and started his own commercial plumbing and HVAC company called D’Agostino Mechanical Contractors in 1999. I have seen how hard work and integrity grows a reputation and business.

I graduated with a business degree from the University of Kansas and then worked at a large insurance company for 16 years where I first was a property adjuster and then managed the company’s local restoration vendor programs and team for a decade. During that time, I was able to view first hand how managing a restoration company involves a clear recipe for success: having knowledgeable employees who care about their work and promoting a culture that the customer experience is essential for a company’s growth. I decided to start SMART Restoration LLC knowing this information and our company has quickly become one of the leading restoration companies in the Kansas City area. I am also extremely proud to be a women-owned small business, work along side my business partner who has also worked in this industry for over a decade, and have employees who care just as much about our customers as I do. I have learned how to focus on the strengths of our staff and team in order to deliver the best customer experience for every job and every customer.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The company officially opened its doors in 2020 and we have one of the most experienced staffs in the Kansas City area with a total of 60 plus years experience while myself and business partner have 26 years of combined experience. The challenge was starting the business right before the start of the pandemic began, which could not have been predicted. Our company’s hard work has paid off in quickly building a reputation of quality work and excellent customer service.

As you know, we’re big fans of SMART Restoration. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
SMART Restoration completes mold damage remediation, ERMI remediation, water mitigation, sanitization cleaning, construction cleaning and pressure washing for commercial and residential customers in the greater Kansas City area. Our company is licensed, bonded, and insured. We provide free inspections and free estimates. Our SMART Restoration team was founded on providing a thorough estimate to complete the job correctly while also explaining the reasons why the work is being completed. Our company believes in SMART options for our customers so they can make informed decisions regarding possible options to select within their budget.

What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future include building Smart Restoration into a multimillion dollar business while continuing to assist our commercial and residential customers.
