Today we’d like to introduce you to Ludwig Alberty.
Hi Ludwig, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m American Citizen born in the Dominican Republic.
From a very young age, I felt a passion for photography since my father always had a Canon camera in the house. I only saw him using it a couple of times, but I was curious how a small machine could capture moments and memories in a piece of paper.
At the time, the internet was scarce and the few universities that taught photography as a career were not affordable to me. That is why I decided to study Business Administration and then receive a graduate degree in quality and productivity management. My first camera was a point and shoot that I only had the pleasure of handling for a short period of time, but I was able to learn the basics to handle it. I never knew that the ISO, Aperture, and Shutter speed terms existed, but this was not a limitation to be able to handle, in my own way, the Exposure.
In 2011, When my family and I moved to USA, I was sure that I would finally be able to invest in learning photography and I would have the opportunity to buy a camera. It was in 2016 when I was able to make a both investments and quickly, over the course of the year, I was able to take dozens of online courses and I had the opportunity to read dozens of books and magazines along with countless tutorials, Even today I keep reading and taking new classes.
I started to think in making my hobby a career when I saw a few of my creations coming back with awards and honors from competitions that I submitted. I got first place in both state and city competitions, honors and recognition from other competitions. I said to myself, “I think you’re getting too many signs to start a business.” That’s how everything started for me. I’m still in the process of getting everything organized and molding my craft to bring the best to customers.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think everybody has some kind of struggle because life want us to be as perfect as we came to be. Photography is an art that like everything in life needs to be practiced a lot to get your craft to some kind of perfection. I’ve dealt with educating clients about the art of photography, it’s not just holding a camera and taking a picture, it’s a process in which it takes lots of preparation, time and dedication to come up with the final product.
Another struggle was not having a mentor photographer on my side that helps me walk the right path to look at my work and show me what is and isn’t right and how to correct it. It isn’t easy to be a self-taught person but it has been fun. Having no mentor made me learn the hard way and made my learning curve a little longer than expected.
Me being self-taught, it was hard to learn where to start to learn photography. There is too many aspects to consider when you don’t learn it in certain order that it will make you feel lost. So I had to read books and from there, start to watch videos to know how to use the camera and what to consider in a picture to make it great, there’s a lot of try and fail that sometimes made me want to give up.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Ludwig Alberty Photography is a business dedicated to portray the people, landscapes and architecture’s beauty into a photograph. We dedicate our creativity and professionalism to satisfy our customer’s needs. Our business is to make you feel part of the family and feeling comfortable while we guide you through the process of a photography session or when we are selling you a piece of art. My business is proud to be a bilingual business where we speak both English and Spanish, making it an opportunity to reach a larger audience.
Our business brand is committed to make you feel like family, making our interaction more of a family meeting rather than a business meeting. We dedicate our experience to fit your budget into the piece of art or service that you deserve. We look for a long relationship rather than just a sale.
Our services are: Portraits, Family Portraits, Headshots, Quinceañeras, Seniors, Prom, Landscape, Architecture and Real Estate Photography. In our first meeting, we will discuss everything you need to know before you make your decision, price, products, process, contract, etc. We don’t charge anything for our meeting and everything will get written on the contract.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
Of course! In everybody’s life, there is always those angels that help you through everything. I could say without fear of being wrong that my wife, Marisol Cabral is my major mentor. She’s always telling me how good my work is and when there is something that she thinks could be improved, she always lets me know and gives me suggestions. When I’m down because my creativity goes to rest, she always encourages me to keep going, in the end, I’m still here because of her.
My family and friends are an equal important part of this journey as well. Since the beginning, they showed me their support and cheered me up every time they could this include my sister Jennifer Sanchez, My Brother in law Cesar Sanchez, My brother Johannes Alberty my sister in Law Dilcia Alberty and my dad Rafael Alberty, just to mention a few. On the other hand, every author, speaker, and photographer that made all the hundreds of videos that I watched are part of my journey because thanks to them, I learned all that I know today.
Clients too, they help me get better with their words, demands, compliments and just with letting me be part of their memories. I learn from everybody and anything because at the moment you decide to create something, everything teaches you something that will be useful in your craft.
