Today we’d like to introduce you to Koreyon Robinson.
Hi Koreyon, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit or mentality. Even as a child, I was thinking of ways to make money. When we had snow days I would go around the neighborhood and shovel snow for money. Or I was asking my family what I could do for them to earn money. My mother was a hustler so it trickled down. So I always knew if sports didn’t work out then I still wanted to work for myself. I wanted financial freedom and the time to do what I love which is Coaching plus being there for my children’s activities. I started my sports performance business first but it wasn’t enough revenue to provide so I also worked at ford motor company.
I was there for a few years and building stability but I knew deep down this wasn’t going to be where I spent my career. All while there I was always working part-time for myself. When ford laid me off I decided to start working towards working for myself full time. I worked in merchandising and for some Carrier businesses. I studied the markets and worked in them both to decide which 1 I wanted to do. I chose the carrier industry. I went to Iowa and got myself a $700 cargo van and from there the rest was history. I now have contracts with major companies though out the city metro.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely NOT! Entrepreneurship, it’s so unpredictable at times. I’ve considered many times saying forget it and just go back into the workforce full time. I’ve had times where I had close to 7 figures in Contracts 1 week and then completely 0 Contracts 1 week. It’s high risk and high reward but sometimes the risk outweighs the reward. I’ve had times where I’ve had to drain through my savings just to stay above water and provide.
What keeps me pushing is id rather work hard and grind it out for myself and my family than go work hard for somebody else’s company/legacy. The freedom I get is priceless. Many ups many downs but I wouldn’t trade the freedom entrepreneurship gives me for the world.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My main source of income is my delivery company. GT Delivery.
I also own a sports apparel company where I design and makes uniforms for sports organization nationwide. Even a couple of professional teams.
I have a youth sports organization GT Elite which just won Top Youth Sports Organization for the KC Peoples choice awards.
I have Grindtime Sports which started off with me training athletes but now I host showcases and provide a spotlight on youth sports throughout the Midwest. We hosted our first event earlier this spring and had over 200 kids from all over the Midwest.
I work for the Kansas City Chiefs Fan development department. Basically, anything to do with the youth in the community and the chiefs I’m involved with.
I’m also the defensive coordinator for Summit Christian Academy.
So yea… lol, I do a lot.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I see growth in all areas of the fields I’m in. Definitely see growth in the delivery industry. Right now I’m in box trucks but plan to expand to semis soon so definitely growth there.
