Exploring Life & Business with Jessica Dervin of Bodyscape Boudoir

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Dervin.

Hi Jessica, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am the owner of Bodyscape Boudoir. I started my journey after I dropped out of college and felt like I did not have a path to follow. I’ve always been an artist, but I didn’t feel motivated to pick up drawing or painting anymore. My boyfriend gifted me a camera one weekend and it took off from there. I fell in love with photography. I did regular portraits for about a year until I discovered boudoir.

Boudoir felt like an immediate connection and I put all my energy into it. I related to boudoir a lot because the message behind it is to love yourself and embrace everything that you are. Through my own self-love struggles, I felt that this was the right path for me.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey with my business, like many before me, has had obstacles. I had a lot of pushback with my boudoir business because there is still stigma around it being something bad. Boudoir is far from that, it’s so empowering and I believe because my business has grown so much and boudoir in general becoming so popular, that has changed many people’s minds. My business was just taking off when covid hit. I decided to use the shutdown that happened as a sign to take a chance on myself. I renovated a brand new studio while on lockdown and when things opened back up, I hit the ground running. It was a big risk that paid off.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My business is Bodyscape Boudoir. We specialize in bringing an empowering body love experience to all men, women, and couples who walk through those doors. We are known for providing a luxury boudoir photography experience that shows our clients to celebrate their own unique beauty. We are also known for the high-end print products that we offer. We provide heirloom albums, beautiful wall art, and many more exciting choices to display their images.

What sets us apart from others is that our mission isn’t just to say we provide for all women and men out there but to display it. We showcase all bodies on our social media and website because I believe it’s important for people to see their own body types. It’s important to feel like you can relate to them. I also believe that our editing style and studio sets us apart. Lots of contrast and vivid color is what our photos display.

What I am most proud of with my brand is that we are an international boudoir studio. We have clients come from all over the United States and all over the world now for their boudoir photoshoots with my company. I’m so proud that I have been able to connect with so many people out there that they want to visit us.

What I want readers to know about my brand is that you can do the photoshoot. You don’t have to wait until you have lost those last ten pounds, you don’t have to wait until you buy whatever outfits, none of that. Come as you are and trust me when I say that is enough.

How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happy is acts of service to others. I just love watching someone’s face light up because I have positively impacted their life. Especially with everything being so heavy right now with people losing their jobs, covid affecting many peoples health, we all need a break. I want to be that fresh restart for people coming into that door. I love getting to chat with them through hair and makeup, get to know them, and have them walk out the door after feeling like we are best friends. That is what makes me so so happy.
