Jason Clarkson, the man Kansas City now knows as the “Chief Turf Geek,” didn’t start out in lawn care at all—he started in golf.
For more than 13 years, Jason worked in the golf industry, including time as a golf course superintendent, where he developed a deep love for turf science. Golf taught him everything from soil health and precision fertility to irrigation strategy, pest pressures, and the daily discipline required to maintain championship-level playing surfaces. It was there, in the world of dew-covered fairways, early-morning mower routes, and frost delays, that Jason learned the most important truth in turf:
Mother Nature is the real business partner.
After his golf career, Jason transitioned into the lawn care industry, where he spent 11+ years with a Kansas City–based lawn care company, applying his agronomic knowledge to residential turf. He brought a golf-course mindset to neighborhoods—learning fertilizer programs, weed pressures, product performance, and what homeowners really expect when they hire a pro.
But after more than a decade, Jason stepped away, feeling a pull toward something bigger and more personal. That pull turned into a spark when he later accepted a turf consultant role at MariMack Golf Course in Kearney, Missouri, an opportunity that reignited his energy and reminded him why turf had always felt like home.
“That experience didn’t just refresh me,” Jason explains. “It refueled me. It gave me the momentum to really get Turf Geeks going.”
And in July 2024, Turf Geeks Lawn Care was born—not just as a business, but as a brand built on purpose.
Jason founded Turf Geeks with a simple mission:

Then there’s Jason’s stepson, Easton—a young athlete with a passion for baseball. “Watching him chase goals, put in the reps, and compete with heart taught me a lot,” Jason explains. “Not about grass—but about leadership, teamwork, and showing up every day.”
When asked why the name Turf Geeks resonates so strongly, Jason grins:
