Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Markanday.
Jasmine, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my business in 2015 to help organizations with grants management and compliance. My dream was to work from home so that I could be more present for my three young children while also caring for my aging mother. I am grateful for the risk I took, and by 2017, I was able to leave my job and focus on my business full-time. Throughout this journey, I have felt God’s presence, and I am truly blessed to have Him guiding me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We have faced no challenges; our client base continues to expand through the power of word of mouth. My faith is the foundation of my business, and it is a remarkable blessing that drives our success.
We’ve been impressed with Markanday Consulting, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Markanday Consulting is a nationally recognized grant consulting and federal compliance firm dedicated to helping nonprofits, government agencies, healthcare systems, and community organizations secure and successfully manage public and private funding. We specialize across the full grants lifecycle—from grant readiness and proposal development to post-award compliance, grants management, indirect costs, training, and audit preparation—ensuring organizations not only win funding, but keep it and use it effectively.
What truly sets us apart is the depth of our knowledge and practical expertise combined with a highly customized, client-centered service model. Every organization we serve has unique needs, capacity challenges, and funding goals. Rather than offering one-size-fits-all packages, we design services tailored to each client’s structure, team, and compliance requirements. Our work is grounded in a strong command of federal regulations, including 2 CFR Part 200, Davis-Bacon, procurement standards, and financial controls, paired with real-world implementation strategies that teams can use immediately.
Brand-wise, we are most proud of our leadership in building and guiding grants compliance as a team-based practice. We don’t just advise from the sidelines—we embed alongside our clients to build systems, train staff, strengthen policies, and lead compliance efforts collaboratively. This hands-on approach empowers organizations to create lasting internal capacity, ensuring they remain compliant long after our engagement ends.
We want readers to know that Markanday Consulting is more than a grant writing firm—we are strategic partners dedicated to building strong grant teams, sustainable systems, and confident leaders. Our mission is to make complex funding requirements manageable so mission-driven organizations can stay focused on the communities they serve while trusting that their funding is aligned, compliant, and built for long-term success.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My main piece of advice is straightforward: pursue that business idea if you have one—give it a try, even if you’re afraid of failing.
I wish I had learned earlier that mistakes are not only inevitable but also essential. You don’t need to be perfect before you start. Growth comes from experience, not perfection, and every misstep teaches you something valuable that helps you become better, stronger, and smarter moving forward. Make lots of mistakes, it’s okay.
Be open to learning as you go, ask for help when needed, and refine your approach over time. Focus on progress rather than perfection.
