Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Butler and Jake Beckner.

Hi Emily and Jake, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Dwelling began when two people met by what could only be fate in real estate class, of all places. After very quickly falling in love, they grew closer every day by working side by side in the kitchen. Creating and sharing meals together naturally became their favorite pastime. Thanks to their creativity and passion, it seemed to never get old. From this, an idea was born to change the restaurant scene in Kansas City.

Our goal is to bring the most creative and motivated chefs to your very own kitchen. We create a fine dining experience in the luxury of your Dwelling. We can accommodate anything from a large dinner party to an intimate occasion.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We are business owners in our early 20s, so we are definitely learning as we go. We have had to practice like crazy to make sure every detail of every event runs smoothly. It takes a lot of preparation to make sure such a special event is absolutely stress-free for our clients. The main challenge we’re facing is one we’re sure all business owners do: What’s the best way to grow and engage with our audience?

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Our business is a private chef collective. We want to give local chefs with a similar passion and drive for culinary arts and service an opportunity to make a name for themselves in the restaurant industry.

One of our goals is to create a new type of dining experience for Kansas City. You should know that we take the utmost pride in our ingredients, and we make a serious effort to partner with local distributors and growers.

Our specialty is our Four-Course Fine Dining Experience. However, we provide a wide variety of services. We have our “Date Night Special”, which includes six courses for two, “Dinner Party” for 12-15 people, and “Family Style” for a large gathering of 15 people or more. Each of our services comes with an in-home consultation prior, during which we discuss your expectations and dietary needs. We follow up with three customized menu options, taking direction from your likes and dislikes to create an experience that is unique to each party.

What does success mean to you?
At Dwelling, we have found our success is in the joy we share through our hand-crafted dishes. Each one is specifically tailored toward the guests for our events, and with each clean plate that comes back to the kitchen, we feel like we have truly succeeded. Nothing makes us happier than seeing smiling faces after one of our delicious meals. Success is also when a client is so thrilled with their event that they refer our services to their closest friends and family. Repeat clients and referrals mean the world to us.
