Today we’d like to introduce you to Dylan Horsch.
Hi Dylan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hey,
My name is Dylan Horsch, owner and body piercer at Golden Buffalo Body Arts. I appreciate Voyage KC for reaching out to find out more about Golden Buffalo Body Arts and myself.
I’ve always dreamed of owning my own business, and I was able to make that a reality with Golden Buffalo Body Arts last October when we officially opened for business on the 13th. My career in body piercing began in 2019 in Wichita, KS, but Kansas City has always felt like home to me. In 2014, I had re-located for a job with Complete Nutrition in the Deer Creek shopping center here in Overland Park but moved back to Wichita to be with family in 2017, knowing I would return one day. In 2022, I received an opportunity to move back to Kansas City to help open another studio in Overland Park, and this is where I really started to develop my vision that came to be Golden Buffalo Body Arts. Working in other studios, I learned a lot about what exactly I wanted and didn’t want for my own studio, and started making mental notes about the changes that were necessary to run a professional, client-focused studio. I created Golden Buffalo Body Arts with the main focus on our clients. We take pride in providing an exceptional experience where clients feel comfortable and know that they are going to be taken care of.
I’m proud to have Halen Knapp as my co-founder and tattoo artist. Halen embodies the spirit of Golden Buffalo Body Arts and holds the same beliefs that our clients truly deserve the best. Halen takes every step possible to make sure that everyone feels heard and appreciated throughout the process and leaves with a one-of-a-kind piece of art.
At Golden Buffalo, our mission is to exceed industry standards by creating a welcoming environment. We focus on genuine connections and making every client feel valued. It’s more than customer service, it’s a commitment to quality and a love for what we do.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
In all honesty, no. Outside the everyday challenges of starting a small business, other studio owners I’ve worked for in the past attempted to create as many obstacles as they could for me. Despite their actions, I chose to focus on bringing my vision to life, and I wasn’t going to let anything, or anyone, stop me. I didn’t come from a wealthy family or from a family of experienced business owners, so this process was incredibly new and challenging. However, I worked hard, saved as much money as I could, and focused on seeking out as much advice from other entrepreneurs as I could along the way. Just five months after opening our doors, I can’t believe how far we have come. I am ecstatic to be in the position I am in now, there’s truly nothing greater than getting to see your dreams come to life and knowing that your hard work does pay off. No matter who tries to stand in your way, if you can just keep a positive mindset, ignore all distractions, and lean on those that love and support you, anything is possible!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Golden Buffalo Body Arts distinguishes itself from competitors by prioritizing client satisfaction, offering competitive pricing, all while providing a luxurious experience. Our statement “Adorn yourself” truly encompasses the curated experience we provide. My co-founder, Halen Knapp, and I’s combined experiences from operating out of other studios in the past led us to the establishment of heightened standards here at Golden Buffalo Body Arts. Unlike our prior experiences, we won’t tolerate unprofessional behaviors, subpar work, excessive charges, or any behavior that makes a client feel unsafe, unvalued, or uncomfortable.
At Golden Buffalo Body Arts, we are committed to curating your luxury experience, and maintaining a comfortable and hygienic environment. Our team is APT certified and actively participates in APP conferences and education, where we receive additional training by these committees dedicated to constantly improving our industry.
Golden Buffalo Body Arts aims to bring nothing but the absolute best for our clients, without exception. Anyone that visits our studio for a consultation or appointment will be met with kindness, honesty, and professionalism. We are still growing, as we’ve only been open for five months now, but our commitment to the client-experience has always, and will always, come first.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I consider myself a risk-taker, both personally and professionally. Professionally, I went from a well-established shop in Wichita, to a brand new studio in Overland Park with no clientele, to now taking the risk to open my own studio. I’ve had to take risks throughout my entire career, but taking those risks and betting on myself has been a big part of my growth as both a person and a professional, and has ultimately led me down a successful path. Personally, I have a funny story about “risk taking” that involves a motorcycle, a crash, a brand new motorcycle, and a very irritated wife and mother. But you’ll have to come visit the shop to hear that story!
