Exploring Life & Business with Denetra Norris of Netra Norris Emprise

Today we’d like to introduce you to Denetra Norris.

Hi Denetra, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I started off as an LPN and later continued my education for my RN-BSN. I am currently continuing my education with the goal of becoming a Psych-Nurse Practitioner. I became a nurse after having my first child and wanting the ability to provide and be financially stable while being knowledgeable about things my child would experience health-related, with confidence. After being with an area hospital as a Nurse Care Manager for years, I became an agency/travel nurse RN to pursue my passion of running my own business to help coach other nurses and advocate for those experiencing mental health issues. Today I help nurses go from hectic to healthy lifestyles while working as an agency nurse and enjoying life with my family.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The road was not smooth but I had a lot of support. The biggest struggle I remember facing is missing my daughter’s second birthday party at her school due to a nursing school clinical rotation. I remember receiving photos the entire time of my daughter and her dad and vowing to never miss another event. My kid’s father threw the party on his own while encouraging me that nursing school was almost over. Times I wanted to give up because my schedule was so limited for family and I thank God my parents and family stepped in to encourage me. My mom continuously prayed over my life and my journey and to this day she refers to me as her “generous daughter”. I then had a son that was born with bilateral club feet. Being a nurse, I felt confident I could handle this. I was grateful that I was an established nurse but the uncertainties of my son’s surgeries and traveling to an out-of-town hospital caused me to leave my job at the hospital and pursue travel/agency nursing full time to fit my families schedule with a child that was school age and my small son. The road was not and is not easy but I believe God designed my story to help others follow in my footsteps and to provide motivation for the impossible. I am a living testimony that God can do all things as I stand here today as a proud mother, nurse, and business owner.

We’ve been impressed with Netra Norris Emprise, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I coach nurses on creating healthy boundaries between work and home life through my company Netra Norris Emprise. I am known for my businesses GoldenchildRN and Netra Norris Emprise which cater to helping build confidence in nursing and mental health issues which have grown through this pandemic. I have created a following on Instagram @netra.norris where we discuss challenges in the healthcare field and share positivity as each day, we strive to change the world. I have been referred to as the MSN-“Mental Savvy Nurse” due to my critical thinking skills and resourceful approaches. I give back to my community starting with last year’s “Coat Drive Dropoff” to help families facing financial hardships in the pandemic. I volunteer in various areas of the community and teach my children the importance of giving back. I am most proud of the parent I have become through boundaries between work and home. To be able to be my children’s first role model and dedicate time with them is invaluable to me. What sets me apart from others is my boldness in believing that being different is powerful. I never cared about fitting in or standing out and I’ve always stood proudly on my morals and the direction God takes me in with integrity, empathy, and the ability to reinvent myself for growth and continued leadership.

We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something surprising most people don’t know about me is that I was born premature and labeled to go on to have a learning delay and retardation but I stand here today as a Registered Nurse helping others break through stereotypes and labels and live beyond any diagnosis to see their true potential in what God can do.
