Hi Dawn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have always been passionate about health and wellness. After gaining experience in various nonprofit sectors—particularly in the arts, education, and animal welfare—I had the opportunity to start my own business as a health and life insurance agent and broker. This role allows me to combine my passion for helping others with my expertise in guiding individuals and families toward personalized insurance solutions. I take pride in offering my clients 24/7 support, ensuring they always have access to the information and assistance they need.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Transitioning into a completely new industry, especially from the nonprofit sector to the corporate world, has been both exciting and challenging. One of the biggest hurdles was obtaining the necessary licensing, which required extensive coursework and passing a rigorous exam. Additionally, maintaining my license involves ongoing education every two years to stay compliant with state and federal regulations. Since the insurance industry is highly regulated, these measures ultimately benefit and protect consumers. As a broker, I must also stay up to date with the ever-evolving products offered by multiple carriers, making continuous learning an essential part of my role.

We’ve been impressed with Dawn Health & Life/BIG Agency LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business, Dawn Health & Life, operates under the umbrella of The BIG Agency LLC, which stands for Best Insurance Group. I specialize in helping self-employed individuals, families, and anyone looking for better or more affordable health, dental, vision, and life insurance options. Transparency and honesty are at the core of my approach—I believe in providing clear, reliable guidance to ensure my clients make informed decisions. I offer quality coverage, including health insurance, life insurance, final expense insurance, and dental and vision plans. I work with top carriers such as Allstate Health Solutions, Philadelphia American Life, United Healthcare, Americo, Mutual of Omaha, and more. Ultimately, my goal is to provide my clients with peace of mind, knowing they have the right coverage for their needs.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
That’s an excellent question. The health insurance industry is continually evolving, and political decisions often have a significant impact on the regulations that shape it. For instance, the Affordable Care Act brought about substantial changes to the landscape of health insurance. Looking ahead, proposals like a public option or Medicare for All could further transform the industry. However, other areas such as life insurance, supplemental health coverage, and dental plans are typically less affected by these shifts. That said, insurance carriers and agencies are highly adaptable and have become adept at responding to whatever changes come their way, ensuring they can navigate and thrive in an ever-changing environment.
