Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan Margolin, MD.
Hi Dan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was previously a General Surgeon in a local health system. For nearly 17 years, I was the highest volume surgeon for all surgical specialties. I have 3 beautiful daughters. My teenage twins have lived with me full time for the past 2 years. One of them developed an eating disorder during her freshmen year and it became my full time job as a single parent to get her well again. During that period, I realized that I couldn’t be a surgeon and be present as a parent the way my kids need me to be.
I have always been interested in health, wellness and aesthetics. I am very athletic and have always taken good care of myself so the career path I have chosen includes all things that I am passionate about. I also very much enjoy personal connections with patients and this is just another avenue to continue doing it. This is a big leap to follow my dreams at the age of 48.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been an easy transition for me clinically because I am still providing patient care which is what I enjoy the most. It is very exciting to get to reinvent myself professionally. The biggest challenge is really just creating a new brand awareness built upon my existing reputation as a surgeon.
We’ve been impressed with Physician Aesthetic Specialists, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I opened Physician Aesthetic Specialists to incorporate healing of the body and mind by helping people feel better about themselves. I have developed a unique product line of services to set myself aside from any other business. I am not a medspa or a medical practice per se. My goal is to be the pioneer in the health and aesthetics industry in a stand alone category.
My services includes Botox, Juvederm fillers, and the medical grade skin care line, SkinMedica. I want everyone to have the confidence to have these procedures knowing that I am going to be the one to personally perform them. The most exciting aspect of the aesthetics is that I have the only technology on the market in Kansas City to perform a nonsurgical facelift in the office under local anesthetic. This allows people to have what would otherwise be a major surgery and return to work the same day. This includes removing eye bags, double chins, and jowls to tighten the neck lines. I can also do a large variety of medical grade facials and skin rejuvenation treatments including the only direct injection Stem Cell skin treatment on the market.
On the medical side, I have an exclusive partnership with Biote to provide Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy to all qualified men and women. This includes replacement of Testosterone, Estrogen, Progesterone, and Thyroid hormone. We can truly to turn back the clock by improving the symptoms of aging such as decreased sexual function and desire, sleep difficulties, weight gain, loss of muscle mass, cloudy thinking, loss of energy and more.
Lastly, I have a multispecialty chronic migraine headache clinic. utilize Botox and Active Release Treatment performed by a chiropractic sub-specialist. This multimodality therapy can provide a cure for headaches rather than just masking the symptoms.
What do you think about happiness?
Life makes me happy. A few years ago my dad was diagnosed with a deadly brain tumor. The day after his surgery I told him that when I was 18 years old, I made a conscious decision to live my life like a contingency plan. If I was ever the one to unexpectedly end up in that hospital bed that I would know and everyone else would know that I did it right without regrets.
I have the ability to “embrace the moment”. What that means to me is that I am able to recognize when I am experiencing a moment of greatness, no matter how big or small, while it is happening, and experience that moment to the fullest extent. It’s tattooed on my arm! I have been a surgeon, National Porsche Club track instructor, commissioner of my platform tennis league, snowboarder, mountain climber, and more. When it comes down to it, the core of my happiness is my friends and family for sure but life is about all of it. My heart is always full when I can make other people happy. I have always felt like being a physician is a privilege and it is my calling to be there for everyone I know.
