Exploring Life & Business with Courtney Koch of Hallelujah Counseling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Koch.

Hi Courtney, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hallelujah Counseling began in June 2023 after my business partner, Hayston Wilson, and I took a step of faith to open a Christian counseling private practice. We’re based in Maryville, Missouri, and serve clients ages six and up. In addition to our counseling office in Maryville, thanks to local grant funding, we’ve also been blessed with the opportunity to support several area schools. In 2023, we partnered with three schools; in 2024, that grew to seven; and this year, we’re serving ten schools.

Today, our team includes five counselors, a counseling intern, and a wonderful secretary who keeps us all grounded. God has been doing truly amazing things through Hallelujah Counseling, and we’re grateful every day to be part of this work.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, but God has consistently guided us to the next step. One of the biggest challenges has been navigating the shift from being solely a counselor to also managing a business. Learning how to balance both roles — and steward my time and resources wisely — is an ongoing process.

Additionally, working with grant funding can be unpredictable since it’s awarded year by year. That means we’re continually looking for ways to make our services and impact sustainable long-term. Even with the challenges, each step has strengthened our faith and shaped us into better leaders.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Hallelujah Counseling, we are committed to providing Christ-centered, clinically sound mental health care for individuals and families. We serve clients ages six through adulthood, and our team offers support for a wide range of concerns including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, life transitions, women’s issues, and emotional or behavioral challenges in children.

What truly sets us apart is the way we integrate faith with evidence-based counseling. We meet clients exactly where they are — spiritually, emotionally, and mentally — and walk with them toward healing in a compassionate and nonjudgmental way. Our goal is always to reflect Christ’s love while equipping clients with practical tools that empower them beyond the counseling room.

I’m especially proud of how our brand reflects hope, encouragement, and authenticity. We strive to create a space where people feel seen, supported, and safe to grow. I’m also proud of our team; each person brings unique gifts, deep empathy, and a heart for service, and that shines through in the work we do.

For readers who may not know us yet: we offer individual and couples counseling, school-based counseling partnerships, and community outreach. Whether someone is seeking faith-integrated therapy or simply a caring professional to help them navigate life’s challenges, Hallelujah Counseling exists to help people find healing, strength, and hope — all for God’s glory.

What makes you happy?
What makes me happiest is being able to serve God by serving others. I truly consider it an honor and a privilege to do the work we do. There is something sacred about sitting with someone in the midst of their pain, offering support, and walking alongside them as they find their way back to hope and healing. Being part of that journey reminds me daily of God’s goodness and purpose, and that brings me tremendous joy.
