Exploring Life & Business with Chelsea Porter of Forever Uzuri Beauty Bar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Porter. 

Hi Chelsea, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I born and raised in Charlotte, NC, but moved to Kansas City in 2013. Beauty has always been a part of my life. My mother was, and still is, an active Mary Kay consultant so I learned early on how to count inventory and the importance of skincare. I learned the importance of always being ready because you never know who you will run into while you’re out and about. In 2018, I opened my business as Alluring Bundles. I was selling bundles, frontals, closures, and wigs. It didn’t take me long to realize that wasn’t my passion. So back to the drawing board I went and I opened a plus-size boutique called Luxuriant Queen, and while things were okay it wasn’t my passion. I’ve always loved makeup, but I love the science behind clear, healthy skin. So, in 2019, I began to reflect, and soon the light bulb came on and I launched Forever Uzuri Beauty Bar. We have rebranded and made some changes along the way, but this is just the beginning. I started my journey to becoming a licensed esthetician and professional makeup artist in January 2021 and I will complete school March 2022. 

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This journey has definitely not been smooth along the way. From a bad marriage to being 14 hours away from any blood relatives, working a full-time job, and being a mother to an amazing little boy. I went through all this while trying to run a business and go to school, but it all works out.

Forever Uzuri was founded in 2019 and our goal is to build confidence one product, one facial, and one makeup application at a time

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like the most about Kansas City is the diversity and there is always something to do. What I like least about Kansas City is just being so far away from home.
