Exploring Life & Business with Cassie Perez of Color and Contour Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassie Perez.

Hi Cassie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in the small town of Chillicothe, Missouri, where some of my favorite memories as a kid were going to the salon. I was always fascinated by the way a simple appointment could make someone feel confident and refreshed. That early love for the beauty industry never faded.

After graduating high school in 2014, I went straight to cosmetology school with a clear vision of what I wanted for my future. I always knew I wanted to own my own business, but I also knew I needed experience first. I spent two years working in a commission salon, learning the craft, building my clientele, and gaining the confidence to take the leap on my own.

I eventually launched Color and Contour Studio as a single-chair, solo stylist. It was just me, a vision, and a lot of determination. At the end of 2020, I took on my first major build-out project and moved into a larger space to grow the business. About a year ago, I completed an expansion of that space, allowing me to continue building something bigger than I originally imagined.

Today, I’m proud to have two wonderful stylists working alongside me, and to see the studio evolve into a place where both clients and artists can feel inspired, confident, and at home.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. From the very beginning, there have been plenty of ups and downs that challenged me in ways I didn’t expect.

While I was in cosmetology school, I worked two jobs just to afford my bills. Even after graduating and working in a commission salon, I still found myself juggling a second job while trying to build my clientele. That season taught me a lot about hard work, resilience, and what I wanted to do differently when I eventually opened my own salon.

Making the jump to becoming a business owner was scary. Suddenly I wasn’t just a stylist, I was learning about taxes, inventory, expenses, and everything that comes with running a business. As the salon grew, hiring a team and stepping into a leadership role brought a whole new set of challenges. Learning how to lead, support, and grow alongside other stylists wasn’t always easy, but it’s been one of the most rewarding parts of the journey.

Even though the road hasn’t always been easy, continuing to push myself toward my dream has made every challenge worth it. I truly love what I do and feel incredibly lucky to walk into a space I love every single day.

As you know, we’re big fans of Color and Contour Studio . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I own a hair salon, and while simply put, we “do hair,” what we offer at Color and Contour goes far beyond that. From the moment a client walks through our doors to long after they leave, our focus is on creating a welcoming, comfortable experience where they feel truly seen, heard, and confident.

Building meaningful relationships with our clients is at the heart of everything we do, and that’s what truly sets us apart. We take the time to understand each person’s lifestyle, personality, and goals so we can create a look that feels authentic and easy for them to maintain, not just something that looks good in the chair.

We’re a full-service salon offering color, blonding, extensions, haircuts, and facial waxing, and we use professional, top-of-the-line products to ensure the best results and hair health for our clients. Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the environment we’ve created, one where clients feel at home and stylists feel inspired. It’s a space built on trust, connection, and quality, and that’s exactly what we want our readers to know about us.

What’s next?
Looking ahead, I’m excited about continuing to grow and evolve the salon in new ways. One of my long-term goals is to open a storefront salon and keep expanding the space and opportunities for both our team and our clients.

Right now, we’re especially focused on growing our extensions and hair enhancement services, as that’s an area we’re really passionate about and seeing a lot of demand for. I’m looking forward to continuing to build, improve, and create an even bigger impact through the work we do every day.
