Today we’d like to introduce you to Bo Nelson

Hi Bo, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Thou Mayest is a coffee roasting gang of freewheeling renegades that sources and roasts exciting, seasonal coffees with the goal of getting it from the farm to your cup as quickly as possible. Like all awesome things, it started in a garage in 2012 and has exploded into a movement of entrepreneurs, artists, activists, business owners and shopkeeps looking for ways to do community better. Thou Mayest means “the way is open” and is inspired by John Steinbeck’s novel, “East of Eden”.

We source from farms, roast in small batches, and ship quickly. We offer a variety of products to fit particular tastes of what people are looking for in coffee, and as the world turns and seasons change, we find the best coffees to fit that profile. You can always expect that each sip will consistently leave you inspired

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Other than Covid, and the aftereffects, the most challenging issue facing RETAIL food and beverage, as a whole, is the workforce – the demand is greater than supply. On the wholesale coffee roasting side, we are seeing coffee farms disappear at a fairly alarming rate and mono crop varietals leave little creativity and options for future coffee drinkers.

In the past, we have turned these obstacles, into lemonade. i.e. – our cereal bar was born

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Thou Mayest Coffee Roasters was started in 2012 offering specialty, fresh roasted coffee to businesses and organizations, as well as online. Believing that conversations and relationships are best shared over great drinks, in 2014, Thou Mayest created a retail space in the Crossroads Arts District to provide a creative and energetic space for people to gather, drink, and collaborate. In 2019, they expanded their retail presence and now operate 4 stores across the KC Metro area and have some plans for a few more shops. Thou Mayest continues to grow an outstanding coffee wholesale program with a culinary and collaborative spirit that aims to blur the lines between AM and PM. How do you think about luck?
Some people are are just plain lucky. Some people create their own luck through hard work and perseverance to the craft. Then there are those that are a hybrid of both – that’s the Midas Touch statues I aspire to.
