Today we’d like to introduce you to Angie Vasquez.
Hi Angie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Weston Bend candle company is a family collaboration. We bought our business from the original owner in 2014 and began to make it our own. Our mission has always been to create the highest quality candle available. We utilize the best raw materials the industry provides, study fragrances trends, explore our own ideas for new scents then test, test, test! We take pride in our process and the resulting candles. All of our candles are hand poured, in house, in individual small batches.
In 2016 we moved to our current location which allowed us to expand the business into a gift shop to compliment our candle selection. While we are a serious business, we operate with a good sense of humor and showcase it in the products we offer. Nothing makes us smile more than watching our customers sharing a laugh while shopping through our slightly off color, slightly snarky inventory.
Today, when you shop with us you will be greeted by any one of the three of us, Angie, me, the original owner, Sarah, my daughter, or Pat, my mother. The three generations of women who have come together to make us what we are today. And we can’t forget our sweet Gandalf, the shop cat, who lives to greet our customers and gather all the love she can in a day.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road. Learning a new craft comes with its own challenges! We were learning how to be a new small business while also learning the art of candle making. Obviously, as a lot of business did, we struggled through COID-19 and the shake up it had on the economy. That struggle led us to closing a portion of our extended business and regrouping. We were so happy to have found a way through, lots of businesses didn’t.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a small, family run business specializing in quality, hand poured candles and scents for the home. We are known for our large selection of candle scents. Our customers frequently tell us how much they enjoy the fragrances they chose, and some even share the memories the scents evoke.
We have also become semi-famous for our snarky socks. We often hear customers say “Oh, this is the inappropriate sock shop”!
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Our collaborations are many and include working with other businesses on events, being a member of the Weston Chamber of Commerce, working with and supporting charities and even taking notes when a customer suggests a new scent. We are always open minded to new opportunities.
