Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Dinges.
Hi Alyssa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I began my journey in the beauty industry by shadowing in salons during high school to determine whether hair was truly my passion. I quickly fell in love with the salon environment, the nature of the work, and learning the many behind-the-scenes details that go into each appointment. That experience motivated me to pursue formal education at Paul Mitchell The School in Overland Park.
I graduated in the spring of 2024 and obtained my cosmetology license two months later. Starting my career has truly been a dream and one of the greatest blessings in my life. I began working at a salon in my hometown and shortly thereafter transitioned to my current salon home, AR Beauty & Aesthetics. I have now been licensed for a little over a year and a half and couldn’t imagine myself in any other career. Although cosmetology is my profession, I feel so blessed to enjoy it like it’s a hobby!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road is never completely smooth, but I feel fortunate to say it has been pretty steady. Building a clientele in small towns hasn’t been the easiest, but over time, word of mouth and rebookings have started to cycle. As the months go on, I notice more and more people returning and new clients booking, which has been incredibly exciting and rewarding to experience.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Finding a mentor in the cosmetology industry can be more accessible than many people realize. You can start by confiding in your personal hairstylist or reaching out to local salons and spas to see if someone is willing to mentor you or allow you to shadow them. Many professionals are open to sharing their knowledge when approached with respect and enthusiasm.
When it comes to networking, I found success by being proactive early in my career. After becoming licensed, I joined several professional hair groups on Facebook and stayed connected with people I met through salons and industry events. I made a point to regularly engage in conversations about new products and techniques, and I also traded services with other professionals to gain experience and get my name out. Building genuine relationships and staying engaged has been key to growing both my skills and my network.
