Exploring Life & Business with Alesea Wyatt of Hidden Gems Tutoring

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alesea Wyatt.

Hi Alesea, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hidden Gems has been a concept for a few years now. It started when I was in Lawrence KS receiving my degree in Elementary Education while being an after-school teacher on the side.

I started tutoring students in Lawrence as well as Kansas City. Then tragedy struck… COVID and I truly noticed how huge of a problem our Education system is.

That’s when the mission was formed Hidden Gem was founded in January 2020 on the principle that every student has untapped potential to be the very best; and that it takes the right one to do so.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The biggest struggle for us has been consistency.

Much like the rest of the world, parents have had to change the way they spend money. So a lot of parents who have reached out or started have had a hard time finding the consistent money to pay for their students’ services.

That is why we have done a lot of fundraising and community outreach to try and help as many families as possible.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Hidden Gems Tutoring?
Hidden Gems Tutoring specializes in tutoring for grades Pre K-8th grade.

With Test Prep and College Readiness courses for students in High School. Classes are held Virtually or In-Person depending on the child’s needs. All classes are handcrafted with every single child’s need in mind.

Each student gets an individualized Learning Kit mailed to them with all supplies that they will need for their lessons.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I come from a line of Black Educators all teaching in KCPS at one point or another.

So I think you could say this is something that I’ve always wanted to do; I actually used to play school with my little siblings and had a whole lesson day planned out for Winter and Spring Break when we had nothing to do.

I really love kids and teaching them comes so naturally to me.
