Exploring Life & Business with Abigail Mitchell of Mitchell Marketing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abigail Mitchell.

Abigail Mitchell

Hi Abigail; thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
Well, before my career actually started, I worked with a few friends on their small businesses – startups. Eventually, I worked other jobs that allowed me to learn marketing and operations management, just by paying attention to how things were working. I also read and studied a LOT. I was ultimately connected to a web design company in 2020 – through pure fate – and that’s where the real magic began. I worked with them as a virtual executive assistant and designer and was immediately immersed in the world of websites, logos, social media, and project management. I learned more than I ever imagined, and I’m so incredibly grateful for that time. Eventually, I decided to “go big or go home” and I made Mitchell Marketing an official entity, so I could continue doing the work I love while being available to the people I love.

It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Thankfully, it hasn’t been too tough, but being a mom of three, one of which is a toddler, has been the biggest challenge. I started consistent marketing and design work when my youngest was about 9 or 10 months old, so I’ve basically built this entire business with a baby in my lap. I’m incredibly proud of that, but, at the same time, it has made some tasks more difficult than others.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Mitchell Marketing is a company that offers marketing, design, social media, business support, and audiovisual services – all virtually. I design logos, websites, flyers…I help startups get organized through solid business strategy…I help existing businesses rebrand and grow. Right now, I have several clients, from festival directors to brand managers to athletes. On any given day, I could be creating social media graphics, studying revenue statements, or editing videos and podcast episodes. And I’m constantly communicating with my clients. Over the next few months, I’d like to move more into content production, business coaching, and brand management – while still being available for smaller-scale design projects.

As a business owner, I’m very intentional about setting boundaries and being very clear about how I operate. I operate with a lot of empathy, patience, and kindness, but I also maintain a high level of professionalism. We’ve all dealt with bad customer service, so I keep the Golden Rule at the forefront of what I do. I feel like I’ve been blessed with some incredible clients, and I don’t ever take that for granted.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some changes you expect to see over the next five to ten years?
The biggest changes will 100% be due to artificial intelligence. AI has already significantly started speeding up the pace of the marketing and design industry. We can create more content, automate our tasks, and analyze more data in much less time – which makes us so much more effective. But we’re also going to be challenged to keep up with these AI tools and become the experts on them. Everyone has access to them…so we have to keep up.
