Danielle Fuller of Independence, MO on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Danielle Fuller and have shared our conversation below.

Danielle, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Creating makes me lose track of time, and find myself again. Being creative brings out the best in me, even during the worst of times.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Foremost, I appreciate this opportunity! I’m Danielle, owner of Patty Cake Convention. I facilitate inspirational conventions, and I have a boutique that features fun-fashion accessories, and statement pieces, in the Independence Center Mall – Independence, MO. I’m celebrating 7 years in business this year! Fashion is my passion. Creativity, and inspiring others is my gift.

I discovered a unique and wholesome way to use my love for eclectic fashion as a vessel to serve and inspire. I want my clients and consumers to feel seen and heard in my presence; I love to show others how beautiful they truly are.
I dared to be different. My boutique is a full-on experience of love, wonder, and inspiration. I curate inventory that promotes individuality, fierceness, and exclusivity. I love for my guests to walk out feeling loved, and empowered.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I realized who I am pretty early-on, before the world told me who I had to be. I’ve never agreed with the world in that regard! Knowing who I was created to be at such a young age was scary. I’ve always been different, and I quietly embraced it. My environment wasn’t always kind to individuals who didn’t fit in. I had to conform until I matured, and could control my own narrative and direction.

I am an individual of faith, grace, patience, and kindness. I like to take risks, and bet on myself. I love to create, whether it’s an opportunity for myself or for others. I am artsy, I love writing, I get lost in designing fashion, and I love to decorate. I love to bring out the best in others and make them feel safe. My approach to life is one of structure, paired with beautiful chaos. The world’s expectations only made me challenge myself to discover what was on the other side. Seeking what’s within is my comfort zone.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d say to my younger self, “You are enough; you were created to be just who you are. Express yourself without fear.”

I say that to myself to this very day because I was and still am most critical of self. The ridicule I received from being different, made me feel as though I wasn’t good enough. That dynamic led me to be a hardcore overachiever to compensate.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I am committed to being authentic. I believe authenticity is the vehicle that keeps me aligned with purpose.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am absolutely doing what I was born to do! I’m so thankful and grateful! I don’t do well with being told what to do! (gracefully laughing). I have been blessed with the ability to see AND accept myself for who and what I am. I was born to inspire and spread love. I was born to be creative, and to help others! I am able to do all of these things by way of fashion.
