Daniel Moreno of Midtown on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Daniel Moreno and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Daniel, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Always the same, wake up before my alarm goes off and I can’t get out of bed until I am done with Wordle and Connections. It helps my brain wake up and get going. I make my bed and make myself a smoothie. Then off we go!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
From a very young age, I was fortunate enough to grow up in a family where traveling to other cities and countries was a part of our lives.

Since then, I have been to 44 countries and stayed at all kinds of places, from very humble houses to hostels as well as very nice hotels and resorts.

One thing that always stuck with me was how important guest experiences ant these places were. From cleanliness to communication to comfort and everything that involves a 5-star stay, these things can shape your vacation.

Fast forward to 2019 and in the middle of the pandemic, I co-founded a cleaning business that rapidly grew into Kansas City’s premier short-term-rental cleaning and management company.

I understand the importance of providing top-notch services to each and every client and guest. This is why I brought the same values and mission over to StayIn Kansas City.

I knew that I needed to use all of my experience, knowledge, tools and resources in this and other fields to stand out in today’s world, which is why StayIn KC, is more than Airbnb cleaning and management services. Through my career in Digital Marketing, Social Media and Content Creation, we are pleased to also offer Aerial Photography and Videography packages to elevate your brand or personal online presence.

Additionally, we are partnered with Moreno Denton Language Services to provide general, legal, technical or medical English to Spanish and Spanish to English translation and interpretation for individuals, private companies, hospitals and government departments.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
There are several, but I think the one that changed the way I see life and the way I see our world was the moment I decided to quit my 9-5 job, sell my car and all of my belongings, pack my life into a backpack and buy a one-way flight with one thing in mind: to see the world.

Between 2018 and 2019, I traveled to 33 countries and visited hundreds of cities, made new friends and understood that there is way more to life than spending most of it in a cubicle.

Yes, I saw really cool places, took nice photos, tried incredible food but most importantly, I gained perspective and realized that being in charge of my own time was priceless.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Life isn’t easy, we all know that. But it is up to us to not let it get harder than it already is.

I went through a very rough patch there for a couple of years. Along with dealing with difficult business decisions, having my car stolen three times, and making mistakes, I lost my biggest supporter, my number one fan and my rock. ALS took my mom from me in 2023. I don’t think I will ever be able to fully heal from that but I carry on her legacy.

That last year of her life and as her body was getting weaker, she made sure I could feel her never ending love, shared advice and reminded me that we only live once and that we never know when we will take our last breath, so live life to the fullest.

She taught me all about resilience, discipline and passion for what you love. Every day I live life like she was still here and even though she is not, I pretend that she is and try to be a good person, be happy and be there for my loved ones.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
I believe so, yes. I know that in today’s world where social media and AI are pretty much taking over, it’s hard to know what’s real and what’s not, who really is that happy or who really is living the dream but for me, I have always been very honest with my emotions or my feelings in real time.

In business and in life, I have always been a very positive person, an ‘always look at the bright side’ guy, even though it can be difficult sometimes but I also feel like the way you present yourself or your business, that’s the way it will be received.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people can remember someone who always lived life to the fullest. I want to be thought of as someone who smiled in good and in bad times, a loyal friend, brother, son. Someone who was responsible and disciplined when it came to being serious and being a hard worker but also someone who knew how to have fun and someone who made time when there was no time.
