Daily Inspiration: Meet Thaovy Do

Today we’d like to introduce you to ThaovyDo.

Hi Thaovy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is THAOVY, born in Vietnam but raised in the suburbs of KCMO. Most of my life was spent playing pretend, I created narratives and stories about my magic. I would soon to find out that magic is also known as wonder. Growing up, I’ve always put 100% into everything that intrigued my curiosity – sudoku, animals, singing, drawing, piano, make-up, video games, clothes, jewelry, cinematography, music and art, music and more music.

Now, at 26 going on 27… I wonder if the clarity I’ve been seeking all my life, is actually just about finding the comfort in having the ability to adapt and trusting myself through that process.

I am currently on my journey of allowing more play and wonder in my life. It may look like writing songs, scripts or ideas. Other days it looks like walking my dog, hanging out with my family and feeling the wind on my skin.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, It took me a very long time to find the confidence to show up. I’m still working on this today, it’s always easier to just stay home and it can feel comforting to be able to control everything around you at all times but the more you allow yourself to receive and feel embarrassment or shame, the more you start to learn how to challenge yourself – and this is where growth happens.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a singer, songwriter, and creative storyteller.
I recently closed my art print business end of 2024, after 4 years of painting with watercolors and inks.

I’m currently on my path towards refining my self-expression through music. Music is something that has always been apart of my life, I remember being in the second grade and getting my first solo (the star spangled banner, HA!), and feeling incredibly proud and present in my body. It was as if my future-self came back to remind me how deeply enriching it feels to express myself through sound.

My intention with craft has always been “change”. As humans we all go through change, some of us handle it better than others. I create to express the moments in life where people often go through extreme changes and how that must feel. Heartbreak, loss, grieve, victory, joy, nostalgia – almost always triggered by change.

I want people to feel like they have someone to go to that understands exactly how they feel. I want people to feel seen, deeply seen.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
well, we talked about change, risk is just the catalyst.

Sometimes you have to take risks in order to receive more opportunities – as long as the risk is not harmful to you or others – risks can be a good way to challenge yourself to get out of your own comfort zone.
