Today we’d like to introduce you to Susie Wright
Hi Susie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My very first grazing table was a 24 foot table for my oldest’s high school graduation- we had so many compliments on that and inquiries about where it was done- I wonder if maybe I had a business idea- but I put it out of my mind because I was just so busy…
Later that year- the Golden Regiment, my son’s high school marching band announced that they were going to Ireland!
I knew this trip was an opportunity of a lifetime for my son, but that I would need to find a way to earn some extra money. Instead of getting a part time job, I decided to turn my love of hosting into Amazing Graze KC!
I started getting orders from friends and family for custom charcuterie boards- the Chief’s second Super Bowl appearance was a huge catalyst for my business! Small orders for Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day turned in to a spot at the farmers market, various local pop up events, large scale catering jobs and eventually a commercial kitchen space and a pretty busy small business!
PS- He’s headed to Ireland in March!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Finding time between my full time job, family time and growing a small business isn’t easy at all! The whole family helps out- both of my kids and my husband have good handlers permits and do deliveries for me! It truly is a team effort!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Charcuterie has always been a hobby of mine- i specialize in large grazing tables and creative gifts and snacks!
I work very hard to create boards and boxes that have cohesive flavor profiles and that look beautiful!
I also teach classes and partner with other local vendors! I firmly believe in supporting local and women owned businesses
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I’m a planner-by nature. I think about all possible outcomes and like to be very strategic in my thinking… that said- you don’t grow by not trying new things. I’m always looking forward and trying new things. I’m not afraid of failing- because there is learning in failure. You cannot reach your dreams if you don’t just leap every once in a while!
