Today we’d like to introduce you to Shantell Webb.
Hi Shantell, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born in Kansas City, MO. I grew up around music. My dad sings he was a part of a group before they became famous. You may have heard of Lo-Key with the hit single “I Got A Thing For You” I grew up listening to him sing and also around my older brother Jamell who goes by “TheChief Melly” and my older cousins.
My brother was the person who got me even rapping. At age 14, he heard me make a rap about something that happened to us in real life to a ringtone and the next day made me write my first rhyme ever and record. To this day, he says, “I made him throw his rap away and redo it,” lol. I and my brother eventually became a group in which we are till this day called “ChiefEnt”.
Years later, I met my significant other Carlos who also raps under the name “Loochi Bankz.” I & my brother teamed up with Loochi and his friend who was in a group with him. Fast forward to the year 2019 was when I decided to come back and make music after a 5-year break. My brother and significant other advised me to go solo they saw something bigger for me. They even said they would quit just to help me in my career.
A year later, I made Iz U Dum. A lot of people started to tell me they liked the song and it was their favorite. I decided okay maybe this should be a remix I got to pick somebody who is the underdog that nobody really talks about but SHOULD be talked about and heard. That’s when I inboxed Shay Lyriq & SkinnyBae Yae. I’ve seen the videos and heard the music for a whole year and I always loved how they delivered. We make the song and make a radio version. This become the biggest hit song I’ve ever made. I got it to be on Hot 103 Jamz Underground Heat for months I was so happy because that was my goal and I accomplished it.
Then me and Loochi Bankz made our Bonnie & Clyde mixtape. A lot of people said every song we do together is a hit how do we do it or we the coldest rap couple duo in the city. Honestly, it’s easier because of course we live together but we push each other. We are our toughest critiques if something is wack we will let each other know or say if I’m stuck on a song he will have me wrap it over and over until I get something or he gives me advice on something.
I give him and my older brother flowers because if it wasn’t for them I would not be LadyKilla or even rap. Now I’m currently working on my 4th mixtape which is a female feature mixtape. I support every female artist in my town. Be on the lookout for Yas Queens, “Our Bars Matter Vol. 3.” Until then, check out “My Bars Matter Vol 1-2” and “Bonnie & Clyde with Loochi Bankz.”
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing is easy. Of course, it’s a struggle to this day. I am not where I want to be as an artist BUT that is not going to stop me from getting better and molding my craft.
I try different methods every year to see how far I get and I am honestly getting more & more streams each year. I’m grateful that even 2 people listen to me. I do it because I love it and it’s a part of me.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Outside of music, I’m a mother of 2 beautiful boys. I work in accounts management as a government employee I love my life with my kids and wonderful husband.
