Daily Inspiration: Meet Sasha Walton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sasha Walton.

Hi Sasha, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Sasha Walton Hello, I’m Sasha Solana Walton, founder, and CEO of “House of Solana.” I started sewing at 16 and of course, I realized even before sewing there wasn’t any flattering or stylish clothing for my size which was uncomfortable and frustrating. I decided to really study the fashion industry and to notice that there was a massive gap missing and I needed to create that space for the inclusion of curvier sizes. The industry was missing ME! This is a plus-size clothing line that was created at the age of 20 while I was in college. I attended Mount Mary College and studied fashion design for 5 years as well as studying abroad in Paris, France, and Antwerp, Belgium.

Also, my career has flourished into a wonderful division of making art with the plus-size body and understanding who “She” is and the desire to create for her.  Experiencing going to Portland Oregon, New York fashion week, Curves Beautifully Empowered in Seattle, LOLC Live Out Loud Charity in Chicago, Chicago Fashion Week, and also going to London, England to present my line. I was also the first plus-size designer to showcase at Paris Fashion Week with Fashion Week Studio and Fashion by Events, which has really shown how my clothing line can expand and speak in photos, runway, and on the everyday woman.

The motto for House of Solana is the thrive of lavish, beauty, and style.  House of Solana is for women that want to look and feel beautiful, for the woman that wants to be fierce from today night, as well as for the woman who loves the simple look with a twist. I design for plus-size women because my passion is for creating that diversity of clothing for women to raise their confidence and be the woman that she commands to be, instead of just one standard of beauty.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to success is not always smooth or comfortable but I’ve realized along the way that it’s helped me get to the next level in my career to push me forward and to keep pushing my skills to the best of its ability and more. I’ve had many times where my machine would completely stop working and sometimes and would bring me to tears. I wouldn’t have the funds to go out and just get another one so that can slow down the process of sewing collection. The frustration that it brings can be unbearable sometimes and not always having the funds to really push a collection through can be extremely tough. There are some people that hasn’t supported but has made room for the people that do support me all the way. Some of the smoother parts of my journey has been fruitful as well because I’ve been the 1st plus size designer in a couple of events. There has been shows that we’re very open to me for showcasing plus-size and helping me get the point across by believing in what I can do for the fashion industry.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I design and specialize clothes for plus-size women. I have done clothing for smaller women as well but plus size has been the specialty and that is what I am known for what I am most proud of is I studied abroad and college in Paris 2010-2011 and I went back in 2020 and presented my fashion line as the 1st plus size fashion designer in Paris fashion week at the Ritz Hotel with the wonderful show Fashion Week Studio. What sets me apart from others is that I am bold daring willing to step out of the box and try new styles, fashion, and colors. I am covering all the bases that plus-size women need in the fashion industry that are completely forgotten about or ignored.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I know the most surprising thing that people may not know about me is that I love video games and anime!
