Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Cline
Hi Sarah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up doing theatre professionally from the age of 6 onward, developing a deep love for performance that led me to pursue a degree in Musical Theatre from The Sargent Conservatory at Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri before moving to New York City to continue my theater career.
In 2020, I was working on a cruise ship when Covid hit and suddenly found myself an actor without a stage and unable to return to my home in NYC. From the homes of my family, I turned to the only accessible stage at the time: the internet. Utilizing social media, I continued to entertain and find an audience, catching traction with closet cosplays and “duettable” content that invited viewers to become my scene partners.
As the world opened back up and immersive experiences started to take off, I discovered a space where many of my passions could coexist. I continued creating fantasy content about immersive experiences I was passionate about, but also was able to return to live theatre and start posting about my first love: Broadway and Theatre again. I found myself building genuine connections with both fans and creators in the entertainment world.
My platform grew, and I began collaborating directly with productions on their marketing strategies, which evolved into a specialized consulting business where I help immersive experiences find their ideal audiences through authentic storytelling. Today, I balance my work as both a performer and a content creator, using my unique perspective as someone who’s been on both sides of immersive experiences to bridge the gap between these incredible artistic works and the audiences who would love them if only they knew they existed.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Ohhh yeah. Plenty of struggles!
The abrupt career disruption caused by COVID-19, which left me suddenly unemployed and displaced from my home
The financial instability that comes with transitioning from steady performance work to building a content creation career from scratch
The challenge of creating engaging content with limited resources while staying with family members during the pandemic
Navigating the algorithms and constantly evolving landscape of social media platforms to find and grow an audience
Building credibility in the entertainment space as both a performer and a marketing consultant/content creator
Establishing professional boundaries when my personal creative passion became my business
Developing a sustainable business model that balances my performing career with my content creation and consulting work
Managing the mental and emotional toll of putting myself online and opening myself up to public scrutiny
Finding ways to monetize my content and expertise in an industry that was itself struggling to survive during and after the pandemic
Establishing myself as a legitimate marketing resource in a field where many companies were hesitant to invest in digital promotion
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
What sets me apart is my dual perspective as both a trained performer with professional theater experience since childhood and a strategic content creator. I understand both the artistic vision behind immersive experiences and how to translate that vision into compelling digital content that resonates with potential audiences.
I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built with both creators and audiences. There’s nothing more rewarding than helping an incredible immersive experience reach people who will truly appreciate it, or hearing from someone that they discovered their new favorite event through my content. I love being a bridge between artistic innovation and the audiences hungry for meaningful experiences.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My sister, Laura Foote, has been a wonderful resource as I launched my LLC and navigated the business side of things. She is a very successful small business owner (Laura Foote Photography — a KC local!) and has been so valuable.
If it weren’t for Dan Schmidt, my former teacher and mentor at Blue Valley High, I’m not sure where I would be. I owe him everything. He gave me so much confidence as a performer at a time when I was lacking it in myself.
Deanna Giulietti and Jo Fischer are fellow content creators who have been irreplaceable sounding boards for me through the fluctuation and frustration of this industry. We need community in whatever we choose to do for a living and they are mine.
