Today we’d like to introduce you to Robin Long.
Hi Robin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My love for crafting began when I was a little girl, watching my grandmother create beautiful ceramics and handmade treasures for family and friends. Her creativity and passion for making meaningful gifts inspired me at an early age and planted a seed that would eventually grow into something much bigger.
What started as a simple hobby quickly became a passion. For years, I enjoyed crafting and designing personalized gifts for family and friends. As more people began requesting custom creations, I realized that something I truly loved doing could become more than just a pastime.
In 2023, my family and I opened Benson Event Space, in Belton, MO which gave me the opportunity to expand my creativity into event decorating, custom party favors, centerpieces, and personalized gifts. As the demand for my creations continued to grow, my passion naturally evolved into a business.
I have always dreamed of creating and selling beautiful, handcrafted gifts that bring joy to others. Today, I am blessed to turn that childhood dream into reality, one creation at a time.
What began with my grandmother’s inspiration has become my passion and my business.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would love to say it has been a smooth road, but like most journeys worth taking, it has definitely come with its challenges. One of my biggest challenges has been finding the right balance between working a full-time job, being a wife, enjoying my role as a grandmother, and growing my crafting business. There are only so many hours in a day, and sometimes juggling all those responsibilities can be overwhelming.
But the beautiful thing about crafting is that it never really feels like work to me. It’s my creative outlet, my happy place, and something I genuinely love doing. Even on the busiest days, seeing an idea come to life or knowing that something I created will bring a smile to someone’s face makes it all worthwhile.
I’ve learned that balance doesn’t always mean having everything perfectly figured out. Sometimes it means making adjustments, prioritizing what matters most, and giving myself a little grace along the way.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have had the privilege of working in government for the past 10 years, and it has been a rewarding part of my professional journey. Throughout my career, I’ve gained valuable experience, developed meaningful relationships, and learned the importance of dedication, professionalism, and hard work.
My government career represents my professional dedication, while my crafting business represents my creativity, passion, and entrepreneurial spirit. I’m proud to have both as part of my journey.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned throughout my journey is the value of patience and the willingness to stretch beyond my comfort zone.
Crafting has taught me that creativity is a process, and not everything comes together perfectly the first time. Sometimes an idea requires extra time, a different approach, or simply the patience to keep working until the vision comes to life.
I’ve also learned the importance of challenging myself creatively. There have been so many times when I’ve taken on a project and wondered, “Can I really do this?” But those moments have pushed me to explore new techniques, develop new skills, and discover creative abilities I didn’t even know I had.
